Job Description - Accounting Manager

Full-time

Description

 The Role

We’re looking for an Accounting Manager to lead the day-to-day accounting function across all of our brands and entities. This is a working leadership role — you’ll review the work of 1–2 staff accountants while staying hands-on in the close, the financials, and the reconciliations yourself. In practice you’ll function as the senior accounting leader for the group: owning the period-end close, budgeting and forecasting, location and brand-level financials, keeping our multi-entity books clean, and serving as the financial backbone that operators and ownership rely on. You’ll partner directly with the VP of Finance on reporting, controls, and process improvement as the group grows.

The ideal candidate has multi-unit or hospitality accounting experience, is comfortable with period-based (4-week) accounting, and thrives in an environment where they can both build process and execute it.

Key Responsibilities

Close & Financial Reporting

  • Own the full period-end close calendar across all entities and locations on a 13-period (4-week) fiscal schedule.
  • Prepare consolidated, brand-level, and location-level P&Ls, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
  • Record and review journal entries, accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, and depreciation.
  • Review and approve balance sheet reconciliations and maintain clean, audit-ready support, personally owning the most complex or sensitive accounts.
  • Deliver timely variance analysis against budget and prior periods, with commentary operators can act on.
  • Review fixed asset, lease (ASC 842), and capital project / pre-opening cost accounting prepared by the team.

Team Leadership

  • Review and approve the staff accountants’ work across AP payment runs, payroll, expense reports, sales tax, journal entries, and reconciliations.
  • Assign and prioritize workloads across the close calendar to keep the team on schedule.
  • Coach and develop the accounting team, and help build process and headcount as the group grows.

Reporting & Analysis

  • Produce flash reporting and prime cost (food cost % + labor %) analysis by location.
  • Own location- and brand-level P&L reporting distributed to operators, and the group’s KPI / management dashboards.
  • Oversee daily sales reconciliation, tying POS reporting to bank deposits across all sites.
  • Track and analyze COGS, food and beverage cost, and inventory in partnership with operations.
  • Flag archived, missing, or non-reporting locations so portfolio reporting stays complete and accurate.

Planning & Forecasting

  • Prepare the annual budget and periodic reforecasts in partnership with the VP of Finance.
  • Own cash flow forecasting across entities.

Cash, Treasury & Banking

  • Manage daily cash positioning across entities and locations.
  • Maintain controls over cash handling, deposits, and store-level cash management.
  • Review and approve monthly bank and credit card reconciliations.
  • Manage bank and merchant-processor relationships and new account setup.

Accounts Payable & Vendor Management

  • Oversee the AP cycle and approve payment runs, new vendor setup, and vendor controls.
  • Oversee vendor master data and resolve escalated discrepancies.

Payroll, Labor & Benefits

  • Review and approve payroll, and oversee tipped-employee processing, tip credit, tip-pool compliance, overtime, and labor cost reporting.
  • Reconcile payroll, 401(k), and benefits-related accounts.
  • Support labor analysis using clock-in/hours data alongside operations.

Tax, Compliance & Controls

  • Review and approve sales & use tax, occupational privilege tax, and 1099 filings; oversee business licenses and renewals.
  • Serve as the primary liaison to the external CPA firm, and lead the annual audit/review and year-end income tax support.
  • Establish, document, and enforce internal controls and accounting policies.

Systems & Process

  • Maintain the integrity of accounting systems and POS-to-accounting integrations.
  • Own and maintain the chart of accounts.
  • Partner with the VP of Finance on systems, automation, and process improvements that scale with the group.
  • Document procedures to reduce key-person risk and support future growth.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including ownership of month/period-end close.
  • Experience reviewing the work of and/or supervising other accounting staff.
  • Strong technical accounting (full-cycle, GAAP) and multi-entity consolidation experience.
  • Experience owning budgeting, forecasting, and management reporting.
  • Advanced Excel skills and comfort working with large operational datasets.
  • Demonstrated ability to work hands-on while managing competing deadlines.

Strongly Preferred

  • Restaurant, hospitality, or multi-unit retail accounting experience.
  • Familiarity with period-based (4-week / 13-period) accounting.
  • Experience with restaurant accounting platforms (e.g., Restaurant365, Compeat, Sage Intacct, QuickBooks) and POS systems (e.g., Toast, Aloha).
  • Multi-jurisdiction sales tax experience in Colorado.
  • Fixed asset, lease (ASC 842), and cash flow forecasting experience.
  • CPA (not required, but a plus).

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary of $110,000–$120,000, commensurate with experience.
  • Health, dental, and vision coverage.
  • Paid time off and paid holidays.
  • 401(k).
  • Dining discounts across all Gastamo Group brands.
  • A high-visibility role with direct exposure to ownership and real influence over how the business runs.

This job will be posted for a week or until the position is filled.
