Job Description - Accounting Manager

Reports to:

Controller

Embark on a thrilling career journey with Backroads! As our Accounting Manager, you'll be at the forefront of expanding our presence in Europe, combining your passion for travel with the excitement of pioneering new business landscapes.

Oversee the work of accountants, prepare financial reports for senior management and monitor, develop and implement internal accounting policies and procedures. Collaborate effectively with peers in our Berkeley headquarters, and our global offices to coordinate and assure excellence in accounting practices and financial reporting across Backroads' family of entities.

Key Responsibilities:Guide and

manage the work of our experienced team of General Accountants , ensuring continued and increasing excellence in accounting, account reconciliations, expense reporting (corporate card program), financial reporting, and budget preparation.Plan, organize, and review work , set priorities, delegate tasks, meet deadlines, resolve conflicts and make decisions aligned with company priorities.Foster the

professional growth of your team

through goal-setting, productivity management and humanistic people management.Implement robust new, and actively monitor existing,

internal controls , assuring adequacy, documentation, and continued improvements in internal controls such as transaction and activity reviews, approval authority, segregation of duties, fraud prevention controls, reconciliations, and other checks and balances to protect Backroads' financial assets.Plan and oversee the creation of monthly, quarterly and annual comprehensive

financial reporting, and comparison to estimates,

that align with the principles of financial reporting standards

(GAAP) , assuring accuracy, completeness and transparency.Implement robust new, and actively monitor existing,

productivity metrics reporting

to assure right-staffing to achieve financial and productivity goals.Manage

annual financial audit activities

and be the direct liaison with

external financial auditors , and through your team members, assure the timely production of essential information, and maintaining compliance throughout the year with all regulatory accounting rules.Ensure Backroads is always in compliance with

local, state, and federal government requirements .Communicate

excellently and effectively to tell the story of financial results to financial and non-financial business stakeholders.

Skills and Abilities:Exceptional leadership and humanistic team management skills.Stellar communication skills, both written and verbal.Outstanding organizational and time management skills, managing high volume work while meeting deadlines.Proficiency in accounting software (EPICOR, etc.)Proficiency in Excel and the full Microsoft Office Suite.

Education and Experience:A Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business Administration.Knowledge of U.S. GAAPA minimum of seven years of related experience.International accounting experience and CPA designation is a big plus.

Physical Requirements:Comfort with prolonged periods at a desk and working on a computer.Ability to lift up to 15 pounds occasionally.

Salary Ranges:$95,000.00 - $170,000.00

At Backroads, we uphold a commitment to transparency and fairness within our hiring process, particularly regarding compensation. The salary range posted for each role applies to both employment offers and employees actively working in the role.

New hires are typically offered a starting salary between the minimum and midpoint of the range to ensure there is continued opportunity for salary progression during your employment at Backroads, reflecting our commitment to rewarding ongoing dedication, high performance, and significant contributions to our team. This approach not only supports our budgeting strategy but also our intention to foster an environment that encourages long-term growth and strong relationships between Backroads and our valued employees.

Our office roles are onsite in our Berkeley headquarters, unless specifically noted as 'available for remote'. We do allow one work-from-home day a week, as well as one work-from-anywhere week per year. This pay range is intended for in-person work in our Berkeley, CA headquarters. Pay ranges for remote-eligible roles will be subject to adjustment based on the geolocation of the employee.
