Job Description - Accounting Specialist Oil and Gas



Accounting Specialist - Oil & Gas


 


Job Overview

The Accounting Specialist is primarily responsible for general revenue accounting duties related to the recording of the company’s oil & natural gas production each month, as well as managing financial records and preparing reports for upper management.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:



  • Processing and reviewing accounts payable invoices for accuracy and compliance with company policies

  • Assisting in the preparation of 1099 reporting and filing with Federal and State agencies

  • Management and reconciliation of company expense reporting

  • Reconciliation of general ledger account balances

  • Preparation of financial statements

  • Perform monthly balance sheet, income statement and changes in financial position/budget variance analyses

  • Assisting in the preparation of budgets for review by management

  • Maintenance and reconciliation of fixed assets schedules

  • Ensures billings and receivables are correctly processed in a timely manner

  • Assists Finance & Accounting Team with analysis of data and reports.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Finance & Accounting Team


Skills and Qualifications:



  • BS or BA degree in accounting (CPA a plus)

  • 2-4 years of oil & gas/real estate accounting experience is highly preferred

  • Understanding of GAAP accounting and financial principles

  • Understanding of tax concepts and reporting requirements

  • Ability to apply accounting principles to the maintenance of all Accounts and Finance records.

  • Proficient in using accounting software.

  • Ability to work independently and with a team

  • Strong analytical skills

  • Attention to detail

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to multi-task

  • Self-motivated, hands-on, and desire and ability to learn and grow

  • Highly skilled and proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel

  • High level of ethics & integrity, maintaining a high degree of confidentiality
