JOB POSITION: Accounting Supervisor
DEPARTMENT: Financial Services
REPORTS TO: Chief Financial Officer
SALARY RATE: $70K-$85K J
OB STATUS: Full-Time Exempt
HOURS: Monday – Friday 8:30 am - 5:30 pm (Or As Required)
GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY: The Accounting Supervisor is a key accounting team leadership role responsible for both refining and developing internal procedures and overseeing property management accounting functions for multiple commercial real estate portfolios, including industrial, office, and retail properties. This position requires a strong foundation in accounting principles, with at least five years of relevant experience and a proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment. The ideal candidate will be a proactive, solutions-focused professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment. You will help lead a team committed to accuracy, timely execution, and process improvement. Strong technical knowledge, particularly in commercial property accounting and MRI software, is essential. This role requires not just technical know-how, but the ability to manage people and processes with professionalism, structure, and a spirit of collaboration. You will work directly with the CFO and other senior accounting team members to ensure execution of financial reporting, draw processing, property budgets, and internal controls. A key part of this role includes helping coach and support Portfolio Accountants and the accounts payable function.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING/SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration OR equivalent to an appropriate 4+ year college program.
- Five or more years of experience in property management accounting for commercial real estate (industrial, office and/or retail).
- Expert level ability utilizing and overseeing commercial real estate accounting systems, MRI preferred.
- Strong problem solving, decision making and analytical skills.
- Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization verbally, in writing, and through other methods.
- Possess strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and manage multiple deadlines.
- Proven capability for effective use of computer systems including spreadsheet, word processing, and accounting software.
- Able to prepare a variety of complex financial statements, reports, and analyses.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain high standards of accuracy and compliance assurance.
- Process-driven mindset with the ability to streamline workflows.
- Skilled in analyzing complex or ambiguous situations to develop structured, data-informed solutions and provide strategic guidance.
- Ability to interpret and communicate financial data clearly to both accounting and non-accounting stakeholders.
- Proactively identifies issues or inefficiencies and proposes solutions.
- Reliable and self-directed: follows through on projects, owns outcomes, and meets high expectations.
- Needs to possess a positive outlook with ability to stay organized and efficient under pressure.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATE REQUIRED:
Active driver’s license and insured automobile.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TASKS:
- Oversee the timely month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close of all commercial properties.
- Maintain internal financial controls and procedures in alignment with the company’s SOC 1 Type 2 (System and Organization Controls) compliance standards, ensuring the integrity and reliability of financial reporting.
- Oversee mortgage processing and draw requests, ensuring compliance with lender requirements and deadlines.
- Maintain direct responsibility for a small portfolio of 2–3 properties, including full-cycle accounting.
- Assist in the oversight and direct involvement in the annual budgets and CAM reconciliations for all properties.
- Provide technical expertise and support for MRI software, including new property setup and configuration.
- Partner closely with Accounting Manager and Accounting Supervisor to support overall accounting operations.
- Experience supervising staff (especially Portfolio Accountants and Accounts Payable).
- Support the Accounts Payable team with process oversight, exception handling, and workload balancing as needed.
- Actively participate as a member of the Accounting L10 (EOS) team, contributing to Rocks, Scorecard items, and team priorities.
- Enforce proper accounting methods, policies, and principles.
- Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures.
- Collaborate regularly with the CFO and accounting leadership team.
