Job Description - Accounting Supervisor

Job description

We are a full-service Certified Public Accounting firm offering tax, audit, consulting, and business advisory services to clients in a wide variety of industries. Due to our continued growth, we are constantly seeking talented individuals to join our team of professionals in providing superior client services. This position will allow you to grow and develop with a wide variety of projects and services. We offer training and education opportunities and provide prospects for advancement.

The Accounting Supervisor participates in managing and developing CAAS department interns, associates, staff, and seniors within the firm by delegating and training them to be successful in their careers.  The Accounting Supervisor takes responsibility and will coordinate with the Client Accounting and Advisory (CAAS) department staff members for client monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting work being performed on time, in an appropriate scope of services and within budget.  This position will seek business development opportunities through new or existing contacts.  The Supervisor is building relationships across lines of business to ensure client service excellence through an integrated service approach.  This position requires additional work hours to support Firm’s busy season.

 

Position Reports to

The Accounting Supervisor is a member of the Client Accounting and Advisory Services team, reporting to the CAAS Director.

 

Responsibilities

  • Ability to perform and review: Bank Reconciliations, Sales Tax Returns, Federal & State Payroll tax returns, annual business licenses, 1099s and W2s

  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts and research financial discrepancies by analyzing detailed account information for financial statement preparation for the Monthly/Quarterly Write Up process

  • Compile and review advanced workpapers utilizing software and managing project workflows within paperless environment and answering questions for other staff as needed

  • Coordinate with other staff members to ensure accuracy of posted transactions through A/P, A/R, Fixed Assets and Payroll entries

  • Review financial information such as trends, performance metrics, benchmarks, etc. and present analysis in an effective manner with client communications. Analyze client financial statements and provide valuable insights to become the clients trusted business advisor.

  • Supervise a team of CAAS staff or senior accountants as assigned.  Be a leader within Accounting Department by facilitating among accounting department staff as well as coordinating with other Departments

  • Maintain working knowledge of the Firm procedures and assist with updates as necessary

  • Ability to recognize client needs and facilitate meeting client expectations

  • Anticipate problems/issues and keep in-charge/manager informed of engagement status

  • Communicate with clients to request data, participate in client meetings and contribute to a strong client relationship through positive interaction with client personnel

  • Research and consultation on various projects, manage Ad-hoc projects as necessary

  • Ensure corporate accounting policies, procedures, and controls are followed when working with business partners and be able to provide support on special requests

  • Take an active role in the Firm leadership team by attending meetings to discuss relevant issues and provide leadership to shape the Firm policies.  Participating in various department-wide initiatives

  • Develops a technical knowledge of SSARS, GAAP and tax regulations as they pertain to the Firm

  • Responsible for managing the Firm processes or projects as assigned

  • Willing to take action on items beyond formal job responsibilities, go over and above

  • Participate in the recruitment of new and experienced staff

  • Cross-sell opportunities among existing clients

  • Participating in both Firm and professional continuing education opportunities

  • Answers accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data for clients and other Firm staff

  • Willing to participate and lead various CAAS Department wide initiatives

  • Lead client meetings and participate in effective client communications

  • Takes initiative to participate in the proposal process and attend proposal meetings with potential clients as appropriate

 

Core Schedule

  • Monday – Friday at an agreed-upon schedule between the Accounting Support Specialist and CAAS Director

    • Additional support may be needed at times outside of the core schedule. These requests will be made sufficiently in advance for planning purposes

 

Factors to Success

  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with ability to adapt style and messaging to effectively communicate with professionals at all levels both within the client organization and the Firm

  • Capable of working in a fast paced, deadline driven environment with a focus on accuracy and attention to detail

  • Strong working knowledge of financial accounting concepts including ability to create and review electronic workpapers for monthly, quarterly and/or annual financial statements

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively and be a team player with the ability to motivate others

  • Proficient in the Firm related technologies such as QuickBooks (Desktop and Online), Microsoft Office Suite including intermediate Excel skills, Bill.com, PCS, CCH Fixed Assets, Adobe, ADP and other outsourced payroll reporting,

  • Exemplify strong organizational and time management skills, confidentiality and a positive attitude

  • Demonstrates integrity, with a strong emphasis on relationships and a commitment to public service

  • Willingness to appropriately communicate potential conflicts and challenges to Manager/Partner or others as appropriate in a timely manner

  • Ability to manage and prioritize large workloads

  • Highly technical acumen to perform complicated analytical functions

  • Develops an awareness of Firm services and ability to embrace the One Firm approach

  • Ability to lead by example and reflect Firm Values internally and externally

Job requirements

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration required

  • 5+ years of experience in private/public accounting

  • Certified Public Accountant designation or Certified Management Accountant designation preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
