The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters!

Description of Work

The NCDAC Support Services Division of Engineering, Construction, and Maintenance (DECM) is seeking an energized and collaborative Accounting Technician II to join the Coastal Region Maintenance Team. This full‑time position is based at the Coastal Region Maintenance Yard in Greenville, NC, and also supports the Piedmont Region Maintenance Team with essential accounting and administrative functions.

Key Responsibilities

• Review and process expense vouchers, invoices, purchase orders, and financial documents.
• Maintain accurate financial accounting data and reporting records.
• Prepare and verify financial statements and related documentation.
• Provide administrative support to regional maintenance teams.
• Ensure timely and accurate completion of assigned accounting tasks.
Schedule & Work Location

This is an on‑site, 40‑hour per week role with state benefits. The schedule is Monday–Friday, 7:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m., with occasional weekend work as needed.
Work Location and Schedule

This position requires a daily commute to Raleigh Area Satellite Yard in Raleigh, NC. The work schedule is Monday – Friday and may require some weekend work and overnight travel to meet the demands of the organization.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Salary Grade Range: $35,596.00-$62,294.00 

Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement. The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/ Management Preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:

  • Working knowledge of accounting methods, procedures, and accounting practices.
  • Working knowledge in presenting financial information clearly and concisely in oral and written form.
  • Working knowledge of verifying accounting documents and forms for accuracy and completeness.

About the Division of Engineering, Construction, and Maintenance (DECM)

The Division of Engineering, Construction, and Maintenance (DECM) coordinates all North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections (NCDAC) construction and renovation efforts, working closely with the State Construction Office to bring projects to life. We represent the department on key property and building matters while keeping facilities running smoothly through expert support for mechanical, electrical, kitchen, and other essential systems. With a dedicated team specializing in design, project management, and sustainability, DECM helps ensure our facilities stay safe, efficient, and ready to serve.

Veterans’ and National Guard Preference

Associate degree in accounting from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of accounting experience;

OR

High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and three years of experience in accounting work; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Based on the nature of work performed, may require appropriate licensure by the governing board or commission.
