Activities Coordinator (all Emery County Senior Centers)


Employment Status: Part-Time, Non-Exempt



Reports To: Program Manager
Wage Allocation: $ 15 / hour


Job Description


The Senior Center Activities Coordinator is responsible for the planning, development, and implementation of diverse programs and events designed to meet the physical, social, and psychological needs of senior citizens. This role manages daily center operations, guides staff and volunteers, and fosters a safe, engaging environment that encourages socialization and community participation.


Duties and Responsibilities



  • Create, implement, and evaluate a variety of activities including fitness classes, health screenings, day trips, special events, and educational lectures tailored to senior interests.

  • Oversee day-to-day operations, including record-keeping, correspondence, and office supply management.

  • Maintain activity calendars, coordinate special event meals, and manage communications to recruit and retain participants.

  • Budget for special events and activities; submit payment requests for the purchase of materials.

  • Conduct tours for new participants and educate them on available programs and services.

  • Ensure the center remains a safe and welcoming environment for all members.

  • Guide and supervise staff and volunteers in the execution of daily and event activities.

  • Manage and balance the daily collection of donation funds from in-house participants (seniors) and drivers, ensuring all money is accurately reported and deposited.

  • Other duties as assigned.


Required Skills and Abilities



  • Ability to interact effectively with seniors to improve socialization and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with a proven ability to work tactfully with a diverse population.

  • Understanding of the physical, social, and psychological needs and capacities of older adults.

  • Strong time management and organizational skills to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.

  • Computer proficiency, including the ability to use specialized software for center management and reporting.

  • Skill in assessing the needs of the senior population and evaluating program effectiveness for continuous improvement.


Education and Experience



  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Previous experience supervising staff and coordinating activities in a senior center or similar environment is highly preferred.

  • Must acquire and annually renew certifications for CPR and First Aid.

  • Valid Utah State Driver’s License required.


Physical Requirements



  • Capacity to stand and walk for extended periods during a shift.

  • Must be able to regularly lift and move objects or equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.

  • Work is primarily performed in a climate-controlled center.

  • Ability to convey detailed instructions accurately and hear normal conversations in a busy environment.
