Job Description - Activities Director for Memory Care Unit
Qualifications/Skills:
Minimum of 21 years old
High school diploma
2 years of full-time, on-the-job experience, in an activities program in a healthcare setting.
Must have effective written, verbal, and non-verbal communication skills. Creative, caring and ability to work under stress.
Professional conduct and maintaining confidentiality.
Must be able to plan, implement and evaluate an ongoing activity program.
Outgoing personality is a MUST!
Physical Demand:
Lifting and/or moving over 35 pounds, walking, bending, stooping.
Work outside in pleasant weather during outdoor activities.
Drive residents and/or accompany them on various activities.
Standing for long periods of time on occasions.
Cooperation/Attitude:
Workplace behavior includes a willingness to cooperate, assist others, conform to rules of facility, display a positive attitude, and adjust to change.
Can be counted on to do assigned tasks without strict supervision and the absence of argumentative reluctance.
Assure that residents are kept safe during activities and safety hazards are strictly controlled.
Workdays and hours may vary depending on scheduled activities.
Activities must be scheduled for 7 days a week and multiple activities each day.
Some weekends and holidays are required.
The possibility of on-call duty also or being able to cover for staff if unable to come into work.
The Activities Director provides a variety of activities which provide social, intellectual stimulation, entertainment, relaxation, physical activity, and emotional needs.
These activities include (and are not limited to):
Games such as Bingo, Corn Hole, Dominos, board games, puzzles, outdoor games, etc.
Assisting in letter writing and reading their mail.
Encouraging residents to participate in religious activities of their choice.
Eating out at local restaurants.
Showing movies or videos.
Incorporate resident likes and past histories in programs as much as possible.
Visiting local landmarks.
Music appreciation.
Duties:
Maintain a bulletin board listing daily activities and birthdays.
Decorating using seasonal themes.
Promote participation in activities.
Conduct resident parties/holiday celebrations.
Conduct a daily exercise program.
Photograph all events.
Actively promotes the community by making guests feel welcome and conducting tours when needed.
