Job Description - Actuation and Controls Networks Development Technician

The Actuation and Controls Networks Development Technician provides hands-on technical support for the development, testing, deployment, and field support of Bray's Industrial Electric Actuators, networking solutions, and Industrial IoT products. This role is primarily focused on network integration, connectivity, control systems, and field communications technologies that support Bray's automation portfolio.


The technician will work closely with engineering, product development, sales, distributors, and end users to assist with prototype development, laboratory testing, troubleshooting, product validation, commissioning, and field issue resolution. The position plays a key role in accelerating new product development while ensuring successful deployment and operation of Bray technologies in customer applications.


The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented, self-motivated technician with strong networking, controls, and industrial communications experience who enjoys solving technical problems in both laboratory and field environments.


Key Responsibilities



  • Configure, integrate, and test industrial network, control, and communication systems in laboratory and field environments.

  • Assemble, wire, and troubleshoot prototype actuator, networking, and IoT systems for product development and validation.

  • Develop and modify PLC applications used for product testing, evaluation, and demonstration of new Electric Actuator, Networking, and IoT solutions.

  • Support engineering teams with product development, verification testing, data collection, and documentation activities.

  • Conduct functional, environmental, and performance testing using standard laboratory equipment and test procedures.

  • Collect, analyze, and document test results and provide detailed reports to engineering teams.

  • Assist with product certification, compliance testing, and qualification activities.

  • Provide technical support to internal teams, distributors, system integrators, and end users regarding Bray Electric Actuator, Networking, and IoT products.

  • Troubleshoot network, communication, control system, and field connectivity issues involving deployed Bray products.

  • Support the integration, commissioning, and startup of Bray products at customer sites.

  • Evaluate, diagnose, repair, and document returned products from the field, including preparation of detailed evaluation reports and corrective action recommendations.

  • Assist with field trials and beta testing of new products to validate functionality and reliability in real-world operating environments.

  • Maintain laboratory equipment, test benches, and development systems to ensure accurate and repeatable testing.

  • Travel up to 10% as required to support customer deployments, field troubleshooting, product evaluations, and field testing activities.


Minimum Qualifications



  • Associate degree in Electronics Technology, Electrical Technology, Automation Technology, Industrial Controls, Network Technology, or a related technical discipline; equivalent experience will be considered.

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in industrial automation, technical support, field service, controls engineering support, or a related technical role.

  • Experience troubleshooting industrial control systems, communication networks, and electrical systems.

  • Working knowledge of PLC programming, configuration, and troubleshooting.

  • Experience configuring, calibrating, commissioning, and supporting industrial instrumentation or automation equipment.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.

  • Experience using ERP, CRM, and other business or engineering software tools.


Preferred Qualifications



  • Experience with electric valve actuators, process control equipment, or industrial automation products.

  • Experience supporting Industrial IoT devices, remote monitoring systems, or sensor-based applications.

  • Knowledge of industrial communication protocols and networks, including:


    • EtherNet/IP

    • DeviceNet

    • PROFIBUS

    • Modbus RTU/TCP

    • LoRaWAN

    • Serial communications (RS-232, RS-485, UART)


  • Familiarity with DCS, SCADA, and industrial control architectures.

  • Experience with network diagnostics, wireless communications, and field connectivity technologies.


Required Skills and Competencies



  • Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills.

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and network architectures.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced product development environment.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while collaborating effectively within cross-functional teams.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Commitment to customer support and technical excellence.
