MSTP - ADFOR Aviation Analyst / Exercise Planner
Primary Location: Quantico, VA
Must be a U.S Citizen
Security Clearance: Secret (Minimum); Top Secret with SCI eligibility desired
Specific Responsibilities
The mission of the MSTP is to provide training in MAGTF across the range of military operations, within the context of a Joint and/or Combined Task Force environment, to improve the warfighting skills, with the main effort of providing training and support.
Obsidian Solutions Group (OSG) is seeking an Aviation Analyst for the Adversary Forces (ADFOR) section of MSTP to provide support to MEF/MEB-level exercise design, planning, and execution. The ADFOR Cell simulates a near-peer adversary capable of operating in all domains (air, land, maritime, space, and cyberspace) at the high end of the Range of Military Operations and provide detailed and functional knowledge near-peer adversary combat arms doctrine, tactics, order of battle, and weapons systems (i.e., Combat Arms Requirements). The successful candidate will have a well-rounded background in joint military operations, understand how a MEF/MEB supports the joint fight, and a solid understanding of USMC and Joint aviation operations. The incumbent will develop exercise-specific ADFORs of appropriate size and composition commensurate with exercise design and scenario development requirements to meet training audience exercise objectives and training goals.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop exercise specific ADFORs of appropriate size and composition commensurate with exercise design and scenario development requirements to meet training audience exercise objectives and training goals.
- Contribute to Planning Book development by researching potential adversary orders of battle, doctrine, tactics, and weapon systems and drafting ADFOR data for inclusion in country factbooks, H&AHQ operations orders, and JIPOE products.
- Verify the accuracy of ADFOR simulation databases that are used during MSTP exercises/training events/wargames, and exercises/training events/wargames in which MSTP participates.
- Identify Exercise Support Manning Document (ESMD) billets and billet requirements (including rank, MOS, and security clearance requirements) for ADFOR positions.
- Provide detailed and functional knowledge near-peer adversary combat arms doctrine, tactics, order of battle, and weapons systems (i.e., Combat Arms Requirements).
- Provide detailed and functional knowledge near-peer adversary air and air defense doctrine, tactics, order of battle, and weapons systems (i.e., Aviation / Air Defense Requirements).
- Operate simulation workstations with respect to the ADFOR Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTP) developed for MSTP exercises/training events/wargames.
- Role play and represent all actions by the OPFOR to replicate a “thinking enemy” and create a realistic, challenging event environment.
- Provide an OPFOR operations cell capable of: planning future operations; conducting current operations; performing fires, intelligence, and logistics functions; coordinating operations; and providing combat assessments during MSTP exercises/training events/wargames.
- Adjusts work hours as necessary to support extended work hours in support of 12 to 24-hour continuous operations during events.
- Performs other duties as required of a Military Analyst and is prepared to assume the role of an event Observer, Trainer, Collector (OTC) to support the MSTP MAGTF Branch when required.
Required Skills / Qualifications
- Must be a prior military pilot or navigator/Naval Flight Officer/Electronic Warfare Officer/Electronic Countermeasures Officer or Intelligence Analyst
- Must possess strong understanding of potential adversary aviation capabilities and employment doctrine
- Possesses detailed and functional knowledge of the Marine Corps and joint/combined Planning Process and Marine Corps and joint doctrine related to air operations.
- Senior staff planning experience in Joint Operations Planning Process and/or the Marine Corps Planning Process at a COCOM, JTF, MEF, Wing, or AOC supporting air operations.
- Experience writing orders in the USMC and Adaptive Planning and Execution (APEX) format.
- Completion of an appropriate level of professional military education such as Command and Staff College or War College.
- Knowledge of, and operational experience, deploying and employing aviation and/or aviation support units.
- Knowledge of, and operational experience, with military doctrine, tactics, and command relationships at the operational command level.
Desired Skills/Qualifications
- Mid/Senior-Level – Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent w/ 15+ Years Direct Relevant Experience
- Experience with integrating air operations into USMC/Joint exercises.
- Proficiency using MS Word, Excel, Adobe, and Outlook skills.
- Strong verbal, written, interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
- Basic knowledge of MAGTF Tactical Warfighting Simulation (MTWS)

Travel
- 15-35%, primarily to Camp Lejeune, NC; Camp Pendleton, CA; and Okinawa
