Instructor needed for COMM 243 Audio/Visual Newsgathering, Spring 2027 semester

This course provides students with the skills and knowledge needed to gather, produce, and present audio and video news content. Students will learn traditional and emerging methods of news gathering, including working with press releases, social media platforms, and field reporting. The curriculum emphasizes hands-on learning with modern tools and technologies, collaborative group projects, and real-world applications.
 

Employed on a per-load-unit basis for a given semester or term. Sole contracted responsibilities are those activities required in the delivery of a course (e.g., mentoring/coaching, preparation, teaching, grading, office hours). In some instances, there may be some contracted responsibilities for advising, course development or meeting other departmental needs.

Messiah’s communication major helps the student to further their knowledge in the general field of communication with the flexibility to take courses in areas that interest them most. Learning to apply theories effectively and ethically in a wide range of communication specialties, students graduate with the foundation needed to pursue communication-related careers or further their education through graduate studies.
 

Teach undergraduate classes on an as-needed basis. Create and maintain a course page in Canvas LMS structure; design and grade assessments of student learning; respond to students in a timely manner via weekly office hours and/or email.
Courses typically meet face to face for 2.5-hours/week for 15 weeks either in three 50-minute lectures (MWF) or two 75-minute lectures. Scheduling may be adjustable, but typically occurs between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. 
Responsibilities specific to the class taught will be communicated on an individual basis.

Advanced degree or significant experience in the area relevant for the course that will be taught. Candidates must evidence the potential for strong classroom teaching and positive student interaction and mentorship.
