Description of Work

This role supports the Underground Storage Tank Branch’s permitting and registration functions by serving as a key point of contact for Underground Storage Tank (UST) requirements, ownership changes, financial responsibility, and compliance. The position ensures accurate processing, tracking, and issuance of permits while assisting customers and staff with regulatory requirements and documentation.

Key Responsibilities:

• Review and process change-of-ownership and financial responsibility documentation.

• Track submissions and maintain records related to permits, ownership changes, and financial responsibility.

• Research property and tank ownership and proactively reach out to new owners to obtain required registration and compliance information.

• Provide guidance to tank owners, operators, and stakeholders on UST permitting, registration, compliance, and ownership changes.

• Issue standard, revised, and temporary permits and document approval or denial justifications.

• Support high-volume operations by inputting compliance data and permit mailings.

The Division of Waste Management is responsible for protecting the public health and environment through assuring that solid and hazardous waste and underground storage tanks are managed properly, and existing contamination is cleaned up across the State of North Carolina. This is accomplished through the Hazardous Waste, Solid Waste, Superfund and Underground Storage Tank Sections, and the Brownfields Redevelopment Section. This position currently qualifies for a hybrid telework option with routine office and remote workdays. The NC Department of Environmental Quality trusts our employees to be self-motivated and successful in hybrid/remote roles. Telework options are subject to change at the discretion of management. 

Minimum Education and Experience

High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of related administrative experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
