General Description of Duties
The Administrative Support Specialist provides comprehensive clerical and administrative support to the Human Resources Department, with a primary focus on HR-related functions such as claims processing, benefits coordination, personnel file management, and departmental communications. This position serves as the first point of contact for Human Resources inquiries and assists in maintaining organized records, facilitating onboarding and exit procedures, and ensuring timely and professional responses to internal and external requests.
In addition to Human Resources support, the employee will perform administrative duties for the County Manager and Administration staff, delivering exemplary customer service to County departments and the public. Responsibilities include greeting visitors, responding to inquiries, providing and relaying information, performing data entry, and maintaining accurate records and documentation. The role requires a solid understanding of County services and operations, including familiarity with departmental policies and procedures, to effectively address a variety of questions and requests.
Success in this position requires professionalism, discretion, strong organizational skills, and the ability to follow established procedures and guidelines within the Human Resources Department. The employee is expected to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and represent the County with courtesy and efficiency.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED, moderate experience providing administrative support and working with the public or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications:
Three (3) years of progressively responsible administrative support experience, preferably in a human resources or government setting.
Special Requirements:
Valid driver’s license in the State of North Carolina. Licensed Notary Public or willing to pursue and obtain Notary Public appointment. Criminal background checks will be conducted on final candidates. Pre-employment drug test also required. All employees are E-Verified.
