Description

The admission counselor contributes to the pursuit of the university’s enrollment goals through recruitment efforts within a specific assigned territory. The counselor is knowledgeable about TU programs and services and serves as a positive representative of TU at college fairs, high school visits, community programs, interviews, on-campus events, off-campus events, and during daily visits. The counselor identifies prospective students within the territory through travel and by personal outreach including phone, text and email and through virtual and in-person meetings throughout the year. In addition to prospective students, the admission counselor develops positive relationships with high school counselors, parents, and alumni within the territory. The admission counselor is responsible for encouraging interest in TU, assisting with application generation and completion, making admission decisions, assisting families with the financial aid process, developing relationships and working closely with high school counselors, and serving as the TU point of contact for any other issues that arise during the admission process.  

 

Essential Functions (Responsibilities):

  • Plans and implements recruitment strategy for first-year students in assigned territory.
  • Meets regularly with directors of recruitment to monitor progress towards goals and makes changes and adjustments to recruitment strategy as needed.
  • Attends high school visits, college fairs, off-campus interviews and regional/school specific programming.
  • Conceptualizes, organizes, hosts, or participates in on-campus programming, including daily visits, admission event programs, one-on-one and group interviews, and presentations.
  • Conceptualizes, organizes, hosts, or participates in off-campus programming, receptions, dinners, one-on-one and group interviews, and presentations.
  • With directors of recruitment and data team, conducts territory-specific data collection, analysis, and strategy development.
  • Provides consistent and comprehensive outreach to prospective students, families, and other university constituents via email, phone, mail, text, and other online platforms.
  • Responds promptly to prospective students, parents, and other university constituents’ requests via email, phone, text, and other online platforms.
  • Establishes ongoing communication with high school guidance counselors.
  • Establishes a parent and alumni network.
  • Conducts summer educational outreach programming.
  • Conducts virtual and in-person meetings with students and families.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required or assigned.

 

Required Qualifications:

Knowledge/Skill/Ability

 

Equivalent Education/Experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Must be willing to work evenings and weekends and be able to travel frequently
  • Ability to multi-task efficiently in a fast-paced environment and respond to all in a prompt manner
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel and familiar with Access, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • A collaborative team player, who can coordinate work effectively with employees, team members, and outside stakeholders
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Demonstrated practice of establishing effective priorities and meeting deadlines
  • Strong customer service with a can-do attitude and strong interpersonal skills

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Preferred experiences working in a university setting or admission or recruitment related experience
  • Preferred previous experience working in Slate, Colleague, ImageNow, or any other Customer Relationship Manager (CRM) system

 

Special Job Dimensions:

Requires working with highly sensitive or confidential information. Evenings, weekends, and overnight travel required.
