POSITION DESCRIPTION
ADN-RN PROGRAM, FULL-TIME LEAD NURSING INSTRUCTOR - PEDIATRICS
Reporting to the Program Director of ADN Program, full-time faculty provide instruction that facilitates students’ achievement of course learning outcomes, engage in scholarly and service activities to promote their professional development, and contribute to the success of Pacific College and its students. Core Lead Faculty Expectations:
Develop, implements, teaches, and evaluates the philosophy and program learning outcomes of the nursing education program
Design, implements, teaches, evaluates, and revises the curriculum
Document actions taken in faculty and committee meetings using a systematic plan of evaluation for total program review
Teach 12 student-facing units, including at least one didactic course and one clinical course
Manage 3 non-student-facing administrative units per semester
Proctor on-campus assessments and coordinates a proctor for accommodations students
Reserve rooms for all on-campus needs in advance
Present for course simulation if there is new clinical faculty in attendance
Present for the first on-campus skills lab
At least 10 days of on-campus didactic days are required
Membership in all committees
Chair at least one committee
On campus a minimum of three days weekly
Didactic:
Responsible for teaching and evaluating students in the classroom and using the campus learning management system
Design an effective learning environment that facilitates student learning to address contemporary issues in nursing
Support students’ progression in academics and socialization into the role of nursing
Utilize an array of assessment tools to evaluate student learning
Actively participate in the systematic plan for curriculum design, program evaluation and program revision
Demonstrate leadership by serving as a mentor to faculty, adjuncts, and students
Recognize the role of a nurse educator and pursues continuous in-service/ professional development opportunities annually
Serve as an advisor to nursing students
Develop student success plans and remediates “at risk” students
Manage gradebook to ensure that it is consistently up to date with current grades
Submit grades into student information system by the due date
Conduct data collection and analysis of course metrics to submit required end-of-semester course report on student outcomes and performance, including Student Success Action Plans (SSAP), course failures, trends, attendance, etc.
Schedule and provide at least five hours of accessible office hours for students per week
Clinical:
Teach clinical at the clinical site, in the skills lab, and serves as a content expert in simulation
Facilitate the nursing students’ application of theory to clinical practice
Demonstrate and maintain knowledge of overall program, program outcomes and course outcomes
Communicate effectively utilizing professional techniques with clinical agency representatives, staff, faculty, and students
If course lead, identify and immediately communicates problem areas/clinical areas of concern to clinical instructors and recommends changes and solutions as appropriate
If course lead, provides needed communication with clinical faculty concerning student progress including successes and identified needs, clinical issues, suggestions, and/or professional learning needs
Grade clinical papers and providesstudents with timely and clear feedback
Maintain all records on student performance, i.e., Student Success Action Plan (SSAP) and mid-term and final clinical evaluations
Manage gradebook to ensure it is consistently up to date with current grades; follows up regularly with clinical faculty for grading assignments and inputting grades in a timely manner
Adhere to/enforces the policies and procedures of Pacific College and the assigned clinical facility.
Attend hospital-based orientations
Complete clinical site evaluations
Perform required end of course reporting of student outcomes/performance: Failures, SSAP, Attendance
In addition to responsibilities for teaching didactic and/or clinical classes, full-time faculty will:
Receive 3 units of administrative time to assist with the department's work. This may include committees and other departmental duties as assigned.
Attend department faculty meetings per department and college policy.
Serve as Course Lead – this includes teaching theory and assigning, managing, and mentoring the adjunct clinical instructor team.
Oversee instruction and grading of clinical adjuncts.
Orient students to the overall course and clinical.
Connect students to college resources for their success.
Consistently demonstrate and coach students on professional skills including leadership and ethics, communication and critical thinking, teamwork and collaboration, responsibility and dependability, and overall professionalism
Maintain a presence on campus and contribute to the campus culture in a positive and meaningful way.
Participate in college governance meetings
Participate in department meetings, faculty meetings, in-service offerings, and other nursing events (i.e., graduation, pinning, etc.).
Serve as chair for at least one nursing committee each semester.
Provide input to developing, evaluating, and revising program policies through the governance structure
Collaborate on scholarly activities such as formal evaluations of teaching and clinical programs and disseminate this scholarly work through presentations at professional meetings and publications in peer reviewed journals.
Perform other duties as assigned.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENTEXPECTATIONS:
Remain current in designated area of teaching assignment as per BRN regulations.
Maintain currency in techniques of effective coaching and mentoring of students.

Current and valid Registered Nursing License issued by the Board of Registered Nurses by the State of California.
Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university that includes courses in nursing, or in natural, behavioral, or social sciences relevant to nursing practice, Master’s Degree preferred.
Direct patient care experience within the previous five (5) years in the nursing area to which he or she is assigned, which can be met by: A. One (1) year's continuous, full-time or its equivalent experience providing direct patient care as a registered nurse in the designated nursing area; or B. One (1) academic year of registered nurse level clinical teaching experience in the designated nursing area or its equivalent that demonstrates clinical competency.
