Job Summary: Teach math to adult education students in preparation for the high school equivalency examination, maintain records of attendance and grades, and communicate with students about their progress.
Hours: 12 hours/week: Classes are Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5:30-9:15pm plus 4.5 hours of prep time. Classes follow the standard academic year and do not run during the summer or school breaks.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Teach hybrid-synchronous math classes to adult learners. This means teaching classes to a group of students in-person while also having a group of students join the classroom virtually via Zoom. Virtual students will appear in the classroom on a large "Zoom board". Both in-person and virtual students will receive the same instruction and level of attention from the instructor.
Identify and develop appropriate curricula and teaching materials to aid students in developing strong math skills at both the middle and high school levels.
Monitor and assess students' progress.
Compile and submit lesson plans and curriculum reports as required.
Attend and participate in departmental, organization-wide, and other meetings.
Act in the best interest of the organization, reflecting the values of teamwork, collaboration, and mutual respect.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Knowledge of the Mathematics College and Career Readiness Standards for Adult Education
Ability to relate and to work with students from diverse cultural backgrounds
Excellent organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines
Knowledge of instructional materials and conceptual methods used to teach mathematics at the middle school and high school level
Knowledge of curriculum design and development
Ability to comply with and successfully complete a CORI background check before the start of employment
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Employment eligibility will be verified through E-Verify upon hire.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in Education and/or Math
Physical Demands:
Must be able to lift, move, and carry 15 lbs.
