Adult Outpatient Chemical Dependency Lead Counselor (Criminal Justice Program)

There is a $1000 signing bonus for this position, paid with the first paycheck. Employee must remain employed for a full year in order to retain the bonus. 

Job Purpose: 

Provide alcohol and drug education and counseling for clients in an individual and group setting, including screening, intake, intervention, assessment, referral, and related counseling services. Assist Program Director and Clinical Manager in oversight of Program Counselors and compliance with contractual requirements of the program. Serve as a backup to the Program Director and Clinical Manager when needed. Conduct chart audits.

Job Description:

• Perform designed alcohol and drug education, information, intervention, assessment, referral, group, and individual counseling services as well as client information and intake.


• Assist Program Director/Clinical Manager in oversight of Program Counselors and compliance with clinical/contractual requirements of the program. Serve as a backup to the Program Director when needed. 


• Conduct chart audits for the SOCC and SACP programs to ensure compliance with all clinical, program, contractual, and state/federal requirements.


• Assist in the collection and analysis of program data for contractual and quality management purposes.


• Meet with professional and other community entities to inform of services as well as develop referral sources.


• Ensure that client files are maintained according to TDCJ and DSHS standards contract requirements and with Federal Confidentially Laws and BVCASA’s Policies and Procedures.


• Follow all finance department procedures and requirements to ensure complete and accurate billing of services.


• Maintain client confidentiality in accordance with Federal Confidentiality laws and BVCASA policies and procedures.


• Functions as a Qualified Credentialed Counselor for assigned LCDC Counselor Interns.


• Provides appropriate supervision and completes paperwork as designated by HHSC and BVCASA.


• Maintains current clinical supervision continuing education training.


• Complete all documentation and reports in a timely manner for submission to the state, the Program Director, Executive Director, and the funding agency, as required.


• Respond to all communication from both internal and external sources in a timely manner.


• Participate in agency wide activities as needed in order to meet the goals and objectives of the organization in furthering its mission.


• Perform any other duties as assigned by the Program Director or Executive Director.

Qualifications:

• Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in education, social work, behavioral science, or related field, or graduation from an accredited senior high school with two (2) years’ work experience in substance abuse counseling with increasing responsibilities of supervision and management in outpatient services. 


• Extensive knowledge of alcohol and drug abuse and its psychological and social effects.


• Licensed as an LPC, LMSW, LCDC, or LCDC-I with at least 2,000 hours in the State of Texas. 


• An LCDC who holds a master’s or other advanced degree must complete at least 24 hours of continuing education during each two-year licensure period.  An LCDC who does not hold a master’s or other advanced degree must complete at least 40 hours of continuing education.

• Ability to represent BVCASA with a positive image


• Must have a high standard of professional ethics and integrity with all clients, within the community and with BVCASA personnel


• Must have and maintain a general level of good health; physical, mental and emotional


• Ability to enforce policy and procedures of BVCASA


• In-depth knowledge of community resources, assessments, interventions, and referrals sources


• Experience with clients in a treatment setting is desirable


• Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and relate well to individuals and groups


• Ability to establish rapport with clients, their children and family members


• Extensive skill in facilitating group counseling and individual sessions


• Must have good case management skills and after care follow-up techniques


• Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, organizations, and general public


• Willingness to receive and to respond positively to supervision


• Bilingual (Spanish and English) capabilities are preferred, but not required
