MAPLE COUNSELING OVERVIEW
Maple Counseling offers a comprehensive training program for Trainees and Social Work Students working toward their LMFT, LCSW or LPCC license in the state of California. All MFT, PCC and Social Work student applicants must be enrolled in an accredited program. Trainees are volunteers. Applications from Associates will not be considered.
Trainees receive diverse client and clinical experiences with extensive supervision and training. The foundation of Maple Counseling's treatment philosophy is insight-oriented psychodynamic work, which includes brief and longer-term approaches to address and improve a client’s current life functioning.
THE ADULT THERAPY PROGRAM
Trainees in the Adult Program treat a caseload of individuals ages 18 and older. Maple Counseling adult clients present a broad range of diagnoses and problems. Supervision groups focus on developing your clinical skills, formulating case conceptualization, and building your ability to form effective therapeutic relationships with clients. Diagnostic assessment skills are emphasized as part of the Intake and Assessment Track.
CORE REQUIREMENTS
Provide 10 clinical hours per week as a Trainee. Attend a two-hour group supervision (in clinic) and one-hour triadic (offsite) supervision weekly. Participate in the Intake and Assessment Track, conducting psychosocial assessments with new clients and attend the two-hour weekly Assessment Training (Wednesdays 2:00pm – 4:00pm via zoom). Attend weekly Clinical Trainings (Tuesdays, 10:00 am – 12:00 noon via zoom) on a broad range of clinical topics. You must schedule three different days of the week to see clients. A minimum of one evening per week until 9:00pm and either a Friday or Saturday seeing clients is required. Remote telehealth sessions may be conducted at client request, but trainees must also be available to see clients in the clinic. The Adult Program traineeship is approximately 20 hours per week.
REQUIREMENTS
The Maple Clinical Training Program is for MFT and PCC Trainees and Social Work students enrolled in BBS approved graduate programs. Trainees are volunteers. Applications from Associates will not be considered. We do not charge training fees.
Traineeship at Maple Counseling requires a one-year minimum in-person commitment. The time commitment is 18-20 hours per week.
Trainees are required to provide 10 clinical hours per week. Trainees attend two hours of group supervision and one hour of individual/triadic supervision each week. Group supervision is held in person at the Maple clinic, whereas individual/triadic supervision may be either in person or online.
Weekly clinical trainings are mandatory and are held either in person or online depending on the program. First year trainees in the Adult Program receive additional training in assessment and diagnosis and conduct all adult client intakes in the clinic.
Trainees are required to see clients a minimum of one evening per week and to see clients either on Friday or Saturday (day of the week determined by lottery). All trainees will see clients both in the Maple clinic and via telehealth.
Trainees are under supervision and required to begin seeing clients immediately following orientation.
Prospective Trainees may contact [email protected] for more information.
