FNA is looking for full a full-time Well Baby Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join our Pediatrician Hospitalist team. This position supports the Pediatrician Hospitalist team and will be required to rotate to all four (4) Inova Hospital locations (Inova Fairfax, Fair Oaks, Loudoun, and Alexandria). 

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will be responsible for providing and coordinating medical and other specialty care to well-baby patients in a hospital setting. The Well Baby APP will provide patient assessments through patient exams, patient medical history, interpretation of required diagnostic procedures, and developing/implementing treatment and management plans.  As part of the patient care, this position is accountable for delivering optimal patient care through effective clinical practice; education of the patient, patient's family, clinical staff, and others; consultation with other healthcare providers; and maintain current knowledge regarding options for optimal patient care and outcomes. The APP is also responsible for completing procedures under the guidance, supervision, and discretion of the supervising physician and must possess and display competencies required by licensure, scope of practice, credentialing, pertinent statutes, regulations and organizational policy.

Duties/Responsibilities 

  • Obtains history; performs physical examinations; writes orders; performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures; formulates a diagnostic impression; develops and implements a treatment plan; monitors the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions; assesses physiologic and psychological responsiveness; coordinates and implements care plan of consultants; coordinates home therapies; coordinates and implements discharge planning; maintains open communication with attending staff.
  •  Will take first call during the day for all issues concerning well baby service and attendance at high-risk deliveries and Cesarean Sections requiring expertise in delivery room resuscitation and stabilization.
  •  Plans daily schedule to maximize efficiency of FNA provider resources. Coordinates specialist, hospital, rehab, wound care, labs   and tests, and/or other patient care and patient management issues.
  • Establishes and maintains effective relationships with patients and families, key decision-makers, facility and department staff, and collaborating physicians.

 Daily rounds on all assigned inpatients and active consults. Writes progress note and appropriate orders and discusses case  with attending. Admits and discharges as the situation requires.

  •  Assumes first call for patient care during the workday, if instructed by supervising physician with clear parameters regarding scope of care and discussing all consults with the attending. 
  • Provides education to patients and family members regarding patients’ prescribed medications and treatment plan.
  • Documents patient information and care in medical record.
  • This position does not have supervisory responsibilities. 

Requirements

  

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities 

  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices and regulations related to evaluating and providing patient care, and professional ethics related to the delivery of nursing care.
  • Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments used to administer patient care.
  • Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish/maintain a safe work environment.
  • Knowledge of health promotion, health risk identification, and patient education principles and techniques.
  • Knowledge of community, professional, and educational resources.
  • Skill in oral and written communications, including interviewing to gather medical histories; providing presentations, consultations, facilitation, and documentation, e.g., writing medical orders, patient education materials, and medical record updates. Requires skill in using electronic medical records systems.

Education & Experience

  • Three years pediatric or neonatal inpatient experience preferred.
