Job Description - Advocate Coordinator- Sexual Violence Services (Case Manager Supervisor)

Description

 

Purpose:  

To provide supervision and oversight to advocates in the Survivor Services department, ensuring that high quality support is provided for victims and survivors of sexual violence.  

Expectations of every YWCA Staff Member: 

  • Uphold and promote the YWCA Mission. 
  • Maintain compliance with state standards.
  • Adhere to established policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to fund development efforts for support of all programs and the overall Association. 
  • Provide support to other departments and staff.

Essential Duties:

Leadership and Supervision

  • Supervise Advocates in the Survivor Services department that provide high quality case management, advocacy, and support to those who have experienced sexual violence.
  • Interview, assist with hiring, training, and leading Advocates in the Survivor Services department following guidance from the Director of Empowerment. 
  • Assign, track and evaluate caseloads of Advocates ensuring that clients are connected with an Advocate in a timely fashion. 
  • Ensure clients receive high quality case management by their assigned Advocate. Advocate Coordinator will review client files, assess progress of goals, ensure client safety is prioritized, and support in connection to resources.

Community Networking

  • Collaborate, attend community meetings, and network with other service providers and/or stakeholders in order to market the program and obtain referrals into the program in our 6 county service area. 
  • Refer clients, according to their specific needs, to appropriate community resources and advocate on their behalf.  
  • Develop and facilitate community-based peer support groups for victims and survivors of sexual violence. 
  • Participate in coordinated efforts through local SART teams and taskforces.  
  • Work with first responders to sexual assault (Emergency Rooms, Law Enforcement, etc.) in ensuring that survivors receive respectful and appropriate services.

Program Support

  • Maintain compliance with state standards, manage database to ensure accuracy and keep accurate and appropriate records.
  • Work directly with victims and survivors of sexual assault by providing support, comprehensive advocacy, and connection to resources. 
  • Provide case management for clients based upon client centered needs and goals; observe client’s daily living skills; redirect and/or teach skills where needed.
  • Refer clients, according to their specific needs, to appropriate community resources and advocate on their behalf. 
  • Participate in On-Call rotation to ensure support is available for the program outside of business hours.
  • Transport clients in personal vehicle, as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned to meet the organization's goals.

Requirements

 

Education:

  • Bachelor's in Social Work, Human Services, or related field, or equivalent education and experience.
  • CPR and First Aid Certifications within first year of employment.
  • Core 40 Sexual Assault Victim Advocate training within 6 months of employment

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Knowledge of trauma including sexual abuse, domestic violence, intimate partner violence, and human trafficking issues and patterns and their effects on men, women, and children.
  • Proven ability to effectively and respectfully interact with diverse populations, including clients, co-workers, and agency using trauma informed approaches.
  • Experience in crisis intervention, networking, team building and public speaking.   
  • Strong customer service skills with ability to communicate in a professional manner with a wide range of people. Unequivocal commitment to pluralism.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion when handling confidential or sensitive manners.
  • Strong time management skills; ability to take initiative to solve problems and work with minimum supervision.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • 1-3 years of general office experience, including reception and telephone duties.
  • 1-3 years of experience with general office equipment (copiers, printers)
  • Accurate, organized, and detail-oriented, with ability to work under pressure and shift priorities in response to changing needs.
  • Must comply with organization's policy of automobile insurance: must have a valid driver’s license and personal automobile insurance coverage.  
  • Flexibility to change work hours as needed.  
  • Supervision experience preferred.

Physical/Mental Essential Requirements:

  • Walking, standing, bending, stooping, reaching, moderate lifting and carrying (up to 30 pounds).  
  • Full range of body motion including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. 
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.  
  • Ability to sit at a computer work station for extended periods of time.  
  • Occasional need to stand for long periods of time.  
  • Ability to focus on detail and accuracy of work product.  
  • Work is performed primarily in a non-smoking office environment, though travel may expose employee to inclement weather conditions. 
  • Occasional high stress may be experienced in dealing with clients, staff and volunteers.
