Scope of Eligibility
Open to permanent employees in a competitive title who work for the Division of Air Quality and Radiation Protection and meet the requirements below.

Description
Under limited supervision of a supervisory official in a state department, institution, agency, or local government agency, performs professional engineering work including but not limited to water management, air pollution control/management, noise pollution control/management, coastal resource management, hazardous/non-hazardous waste control/management; reviews engineering plans, makes determinations and/or recommendations on plans; field visits, inspections, investigations/surveys; gathers data, researches and analyzes information as it relates to environmental control work; and/or the enforcement of environmental laws and/or regulations; works with Environmental Impact Statements; does related work as required.

Specific to the Position
Bureau of Evaluation and Planning The job duties include preparation of Air Quality State Implementation Plans for criteria pollutants, including control measure evaluations, analysis of ambient air quality monitoring data and atmospheric modeling results, and meteorology assessments. Duties also include education and outreach to the public, participation on regional technical workgroups, review and analysis of environmental technical and regulatory documents, and analysis of federal and other states regulatory actions. The appointee should be proficient with computer software and models including Word, Excel and Hysplit. The appointee should also have the ability to write clear, concise, grammatically correct correspondence under prescribed timelines.

Bureau of Stationary Sources Under limited supervision, review permit applications and complete special projects. Ensure that assigned air permit applications are reviewed in a timely manner in accordance with state and federal rules/regulations, and consistent with DEP's policies/procedures. Perform engineering calculations and prepare accurate technical reports including findings, conclusions and recommendations. Ensure that any special projects and other assignments given are completed in an accurate and timely manner, including investigations into alternative air control pollution measures.

Requirements
EDUCATION:

Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor's degree in Civil, Chemical, Mechanical, Environmental, Ocean, Coastal, Bio-Resource, Sanitary, Industrial, Agricultural or Mining Engineering, or other field of engineering related to the environment.

NOTE: A valid Professional Engineer's license issued by the New Jersey State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors may be substituted for the Bachelor's degree in Engineering.

EXPERIENCE:

Two (2) years of professional experience in environmental engineering
work.

NOTE: A Master's degree in one of the fields specified above may be substituted for one (1) year of the above experience.

NOTE: All U.S. degrees and transcripts must be from an accredited college or university. All foreign degrees and transcripts must be evaluated for accreditation by a recognized evaluation service by the closing date of this posting. Failure to provide documentation may result in ineligibility.

License
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
