Position Summary:


The Fund for Advancement of Minorities through Education (FAME) is seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable educator to serve as the instructor for our newly reimagined African American Legacy and Leadership: HBCU Uplift course for middle school students (grades 6–9). This course aims to center Black history and culture while educating students on the legacy and modern relevance of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). The instructor will co-design and lead engaging lessons that build academic knowledge, cultural pride, and leadership identity.


 


Key Responsibilities:



  • Implement a culturally responsive, engaging curriculum aligned with FAME’s mission and values.

  • Teach Summer Academy sessions to 6th–9th grade students between June 23 – August 1, 2025, with training days on June 18th and June 20th, and orientation in the evening of June 18th

  • Use project-based learning, discussions, and multimedia tools to explore African American history, key historical movements, and the influence of HBCUs.

  • Collaborate with FAME Academy staff to connect the curriculum with student support strategies.

  • Design and assess student learning through pre- and post-surveys, journals, group projects, and capstone presentations.

  • Participate in family events, student showcases, and professional development sessions.

  • Provide timely updates on student progress and classroom culture.

  • Serve as a positive influence and cultural role model.


 


Qualifications:



  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; focus on Education, African American Studies, History, or related field preferred.

  • Demonstrated experience teaching African American history or culturally relevant curriculum to youth.

  • Passion for working with Black students and fostering identity development.

  • Strong classroom management and relationship-building skills.

  • Experience with project-based learning and student-led activities is a plus.

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and collaboration skills.

  • Familiarity with, connection to, or a strong commitment to learning about Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) is required.


 


Hours & Compensation:



  • Schedule: 6 weeks of Summer Academy (M, T, Th, F), with additional planning time.

  • Dates: June 23 – August 1, 2025

  • Compensation: Competitive $1,250 - $2,000 per class based on experience. Includes professional development opportunities.
