Job Description - After School Tutor

Pay: $27.00 per hour

Part-Time: 6 hours per week

Locations: Douglas, Robbinsdale and Wilson

Do you have a passion for helping young people learn, grow, and believe in themselves? Are you patient, encouraging, and ready to make a difference one student at a time? Join us at the YMCA of the Black Hills as a Tutor Instructor and help create an after-school experience where kids can build confidence, strengthen their skills, and thrive!

As a Tutor Instructor in our Kidstop program, you'll have the opportunity to provide meaningful academic support to students who need a little extra help - while also being a positive, dependable role model in their lives. Whether you're helping with homework, working one-on-one with a student on a challenging subject, or celebrating a breakthrough, your work will help students feel supported and capable.

In this role, you'll work closely with students, families, classroom teachers, and school staff to understand each student's needs and provide targeted academic assistance. You'll tutor students in subject areas identified by their teachers and help other students successfully complete their homework. You'll build positive relationships with participants and create an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and continuing to learn.

This position is about more than tutoring. You'll help create a consistent and encouraging space where young people can develop confidence, responsibility, and a love of learning. You'll track student participation and progress, maintain accurate records, communicate with the YMCA team, and help ensure our tutoring program continues to meet the needs of the kids and families we serve.

We're looking for someone who is patient, dependable, encouraging, and passionate about helping young people succeed. An associate degree or at least four years of related experience is preferred. You'll need strong communication and collaboration skills, the ability to work effectively with students and adults, and a genuine commitment to the YMCA mission and our core values of honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

The ideal candidate is someone who can connect with kids, recognize their individual strengths and challenges, and make learning feel approachable and achievable. Experience working with school-age children, tutoring, education, youth development, or after-school programs is a plus.

At the YMCA of the Black Hills, we believe every young person deserves the opportunity to belong, grow, and reach their full potential. As a Tutor Instructor, you'll be part of a team that works every day to strengthen our community by investing in its youngest members.

If you're ready to make a difference after school and help students discover what they're capable of, we'd love to have you join us. Apply today and help us strengthen the foundations of our community - one student at a time!
