JOB DESCRIPTION AFTERSCHOOL RECREATIONAL STAFF

MONDAY - FRIDAY 3PM-6PM FOR SCHOOL YEAR 

The Afterschool Recreational Staff leads and supervises youth in recreational activities at the WCC in designated locations. The Afterschool Recreational Staff creates a safe, positive, encouraging environment for youth to enjoy a variety of sports and recreational activities including, but not limited to, flag football, basketball, wiffleball, capture the flag, dodgeball and more. 

REPORTS TO: Athletic Director

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Part-Time Hourly Non-Exempt 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Greets youth upon arrival, and directs them and their guests to their activities for the day
  • Instructs youth on WCC Code of Conduct, expectations, and schedule of activities and their locations.
  • Addresses and conflict, or inappropriate behavior directly, reporting incident to Athletic Director or Member Services staff for notation in file.
  • Lead organized, familiar games for all attendees, utilizing Whitin Park, Gym or Racquetball Court, or Members Lounge when appropriate.
  • Assisting in cleaning up used spaces before and after the activity and returning used equipment to its proper place.
  • Ensuring the safety of guests and members.
  • Providing crowd control when necessary.
  • Document and communicate, to Athletic Director, any observed situations or concerns for children and staff. 
  • Communicate respectfully and professionally with parents, children and colleagues.
  • Meet the needs of the youth and be responsive to the cultural and socio-economic background of the youth.
  • Attend all meetings and training sessions as mandated by your supervisor which include evening and weekend hours.
  • Develop & maintain professional relationships with members by providing personal attention every shift to all through a proactive approach.

  • Note: This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive. Employee may be asked to perform other duties related to athletics, and fitness as needed.

Requirements

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be eighteen (16) years of age
  • Strong customer service skills with excellent oral communication skills to work positively with different populations, in groups and individually
  • Experience working with youth
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, with some holiday and weekend work possible
  • Ability to concentrate and accomplish tasks despite interruptions
  • Certifications (we can help provide): (Not limited to but including)
  • CPR/AED and First Aid
