Farmers Insurance offers two pathways to Agency Owner. The first, conventional, way is to show your access to a $100,000 capital investment. This is not a franchise fee, you do not pay Farmers, but you must show you have capital for start-up costs (office rental, employee salary, etc.).

The Protégé Program is perfect for those that either don't have access to a capital investment, or would like on-the-job training before they begin their own agency. As a protégé, you will begin a paid internship, with a base salary and uncapped commissions, that prepares you to own and operate your own insurance agency within 12-18 months. You will be paired with an experienced, successful Farmers Agency Owner who will provide one-on-one mentorship, giving you hands-on experience and inside knowledge of the business.

What Were Looking For in an Agency Owner:

• A driven and entrepreneurial mindset with a strong desire to learn and succeed.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
• High level of motivation, determination, and coachability.
• Sales, customer service, or client-facing experience is a plus, but not required.
• Ability to pass a background check.
• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Ability to pass testing for, and obtain, Property & Casualty and Life Insurance licensing (paid training and support provided).

What You'll Do

• Receive company-paid licensing fees and training.
• Earn a beginning base salary with uncapped commissions.
• Work side-by-side with a successful mentor agent to learn the insurance business from the ground up.
• Generate new business by contacting potential customers and following up on provided leads.
• Sell, solicit, and negotiate insurance plans for prospective clients, including auto, home, business, and life insurance.
• Build strong, positive relationships with new and existing clients to ensure their needs are met and grow the agency's reputation.
• Stay informed about Farmers' products and services and master the sales process.
• Participate in award-winning training from the University of Farmers to advance your skills and business knowledge.
