The Department of Agriculture, Conservation & Forestry, Maine Forest Service, has a District Forest Ranger vacancy. The position is located in Cupsuptic, Maine. Map of assigned district available upon request.


 


BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION: This is investigative and protective services work of a supervisory nature in forest fire prevention, pre-suppression, and suppression and the enforcement of forest fire and natural resource protection laws in a large district. Responsibilities include coordinating fire action plans and the work of unit forest rangers and other field staff, assuring compliance with building and equipment maintenance standards, directing firefighting and natural resource protection activities, commenting on and ensuring implementation of new policies, training subordinates, evaluating personnel, compiling district reports, and performing district administrative duties. Supervision is exercised over forest rangers and other field staff. Work is performed under limited supervision.


 


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Four (4) years’ experience in forest fire control and forestry/natural resource law enforcement. 


 


Preference will be given to applicants demonstrating skills and abilities in the areas of effective communication, sound judgment and decision-making, leadership, and integrity.
