Location: Food Services Administration \n\nDepartment: Farm to School - Nutrition Services \n\nArea:North \n\nContract Months:HRLY \n\nHourly Rate: $$18.00 \n\n## JOB SUMMARY\n\nThe Agriculture Systems Summer Day Camp Lead Counselor supports the daily supervision, coordination, and implementation of a six-week agriculture and food systems summer camp for middle school students. The Lead Counselor provides on-site leadership to counselors, supports instructional activities, and ensures student safety, engagement, and program fidelity. \nThis role assists Food \u0026 Agriculture Literacy (FAL) staff with programming logistics, field experience, service learning, and daily operations, while serving as a primary point of contact for students and counselors during camp activities.\n\n## MAJOR DUTIES \u0026 RESPONSIBILITIES\n\nList most important duties first \n1\\. Support daily operations and supervision of the Agriculture Systems Summer Day Camp. \n2\\. Provide leadership and guidance to camp counselors during daily activities and transitions. \n3\\. Assist with the implementation of agriculture, food systems, and sustainability learning activities. \n4\\. Support student engagement in seed-to-plate projects, STEM challenges, and team competitions. \n5\\. Assist with the coordination of field trips, service-learning activities, and guest speakers. \n6\\. Support farm-based learning and service projects at Mykawa Farm. \n7\\. Ensure student safety and supervision during on-campus, off-campus, and travel activities. \n8\\. Assist with daily schedules, attendance tracking, and student accountability. \n9\\. Support college and career readiness activities related to food and agriculture pathways. \n10 Reinforce camp expectations, behavior guidelines, and positive youth development practices. \n11 Communicate daily needs, issues, or incidents to FAL supervisory staff.\n\n## MAJOR DUTIES \u0026 RESPONSIBILITIES CONTINUED\n\n12 Assist with preparation, setup, and cleanup of instructional materials and activities. \n13 Support culturally responsive and inclusive learning environments for all students. \n14 Assist with documentation related to camp participation and activities. \n15 Support overall program quality, student experience, and successful completion of camp activities. \n16 Other duties as assigned. \n\n## EDUCATION\n\nBasic Reading and Writing High School Diploma or GED Associate degree or 60 hours Some College\n\n## WORK EXPERIENCE\n\n1 to 3 years \n3 to 5 years\n\n## SKILL AND/OR REQUIRED LICENSING/CERTIFICATION\n\nSoftware \nMicrosoft Office \nCertifications/Licensure \n\n\nEquipment \nOffice equipment (e.g., computer, copier) \nPower tools (e.g., radial saw, reciprocating saw, drill pneumatic hammer) Hand tools (e.g. hammer, shovel, screwdriver) \nVehicles (e.g., automobile, truck, tractor, forklift)\n\n## LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES\n\nWork Leadership. Regularly provides project management or team leadership to a group of two or more employees but does not have formal supervisory responsibility. Leading and directing is restricted to monitoring work and providing guidance on escalated issues. Most of work time is spent performing many of the same duties they are leading.\n\n## WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT\n\nWork involves the application of moderately complex procedures and tasks that are quite varied. Independent judgment is often required to select and apply the most appropriate of available resources. Ongoing supervision is provided on an \"as needed\" basis.\n\n## BUDGET AUTHORITY\n\nNo budget development activity is required.\n\n## PROBLEM SOLVING\n\nDecisions are made on routine matters affecting few individuals and usually within the confines of the job\u0027s own department. Specific job activities and results are typically reviewed closely. There are limited requirements for developing new ideas or changes in methods, procedures, or services.\n\n## IMPACT OF DECISIONS\n\nFollow rules and procedures. Decisions can have minimal or no impact to HISD. Errors can be readily detected, usually by the employee, and, if made, would result in minor expense for correction.\n\n## COMMUNICATION/INTERACTIONS\n\nBasic communication - very little communication required such as receiving basic instructions. Interactions are mostly with customers, own supervisor, and co-workers in own department.\n\nInformation sharing - gives and receives information such as options, technical direction, instructions, and reporting results. Interactions are mostly with customers, own supervisor, and coworkers in own and other departments.\n\n## CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS\n\nFollows through with customer inquiries, requests, and complaints. Forwards difficult and non-routine inquiries or requests to appropriate level for resolution. \nTakes routine or required customer actions to meet customer needs. Responds promptly and accurately to customer complaints, inquiries and requests for information and coordinates appropriate follow-up.
