Job Description - Agronomy Seed Sales and Traits Manager


Central Prairie Co-op is seeking a motivated and customer-focused Sales and Traits Manager to join our team in Sterling, KS. If you're passionate about agriculture, enjoy being out in the field, and thrive on building strong relationships with producers, this may be the opportunity for you.

About the Role

This is a sales-driven, hands-on position focused on farmgate seed sales and growing our seed business. The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys spending time with growers, providing solutions, and working alongside agronomists to ensure proper seed placement and performance.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Drive new seed sales and grow existing customer accounts
  • Develop and maintain strong on-farm relationships
  • Collaborate with agronomy sales staff to recommend seed products and placement
  • Provide seed product consulting and follow-up service throughout the growing season
  • Oversee cleaning and treating of seed wheat and soybeans
  • Deliver seed and product directly to customers as needed
  • Supervise two employees and coordinate facility, equipment, and inventory maintenance

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training will be provided by the co-op.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving serval concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain a CDL with required endorsements.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of the job, the employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; taste or smell; stand; walk; sit and climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 60 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move over 100 pounds. The employee may frequently need to climb ladders and stairs. This includes structural ladders as well as climbing into applicator rig, large vehicles, and/or tractors. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception; and ability to adjust focus. Employees must understand and implement all related safety policies, procedures and programs for preventions and protection while performing job duties in various work environments.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of the job, the employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; extreme cold and extreme heat; toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to we and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; risk of electrical shock and explosives. The noise level in this work environment usually loud. Employees must understand and implement all related safety policies, procedures and programs for prevention and protection while performing job duties in various work environments.


Requirements

  • Strong interest in sales and customer service
  • Basic knowledge of seed and agronomy (willing to train the right person)
  • Willingness to be in the field and on the farm regularly
  • Valid Class A CDL or ability to obtain one
  • Ability to obtain Category 4 applicator license
