Position Responsibilities:
Portfolio Ownership & Delivery:
- Own the product vision, roadmap, and delivery outcomes for a portfolio of AI platforms spanning multiple Aprio business lines.
- Serve as the individual-contributor product owner for select projects, directly managing product backlogs from discovery through release.
- Translate business needs into clear epics, features, user stories, acceptance criteria, and release plans; maintain backlog quality, sequencing, and readiness for development.
- Lead backlog refinement and sprint planning for assigned projects, make day-to-day scope and priority decisions, partner closely with engineering and quality assurance, and accept completed work against defined requirements.
- Set the delivery standards the team works to, covering intake, scoping, sprint cadence, QA gates, and release readiness, and hold concurrent workstreams to them.
- Make and defend prioritization tradeoffs across the portfolio, balancing near-term practice demand against long-term platform scalability and maintainability.
- Manage onshore and offshore development partners on scope, capacity, quality, and escalation, holding vendors to committed outcomes.
- Own budget input, consumption and licensing forecasts, and the business case for new platform investment.
People Leadership & Development:
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of AI product owners and associates, including onboarding, goal setting, and day-to-day unblocking.
- Hold a consistent 1:1 cadence, set clear performance expectations, give candid feedback in the moment, and run mid-year and annual performance reviews.
- Build individual development plans that grow real product craft: discovery, written communication, prioritization, stakeholder influence, and AI fluency.
- Create and protect the team's operating rhythm, including backlog reviews, demos, retrospectives, and shared documentation standards.
- Partner with talent acquisition to define roles, screen candidates, and run structured interviews as the team grows.
- Build bench strength and succession coverage for every critical platform so no product depends on a single person.
Stakeholder Engagement & Influence:
- Serve as the senior point of contact for assigned platforms with practice leaders, partners, and firm leadership.
- Facilitate requirements-gathering and prioritization sessions with subject matter experts, turning competing asks into a defensible sequence.
- Communicate status, risk, and tradeoffs to executive audiences including the AI Council, escalating early and with options rather than problems alone.
- Drive adoption and change management through enablement, training, and feedback loops that turn a release into actual usage.
AI & Innovation:
- Set the direction for applying generative AI to professional services, including LLMs, document intelligence, agentic workflows, and structured output generation.
- Evaluate and select AI models, APIs, and tooling (e.g., Anthropic Claude, OpenAI, Azure AI), and define the reusable patterns the team applies across platforms.
- Own responsible AI practices for the portfolio in partnership with Risk, Legal, and IT Security, including data privacy, data residency, and client confidentiality (e.g., §7216 consent where applicable).
- Define and track the measures that prove platform value: adoption, cycle-time reduction, accuracy and quality benchmarks, and realization impact.
Qualifications:
Required:
- 8+ years in product management, technology, operations, or consulting, including at least 4 years owning multi-stakeholder product initiatives end-to-end.
- 2+ years leading people with accountability for their output, performance, and growth. Direct reports preferred; sustained formal team leadership considered.
- Demonstrated ability to operate as a player-coach, balancing people leadership and portfolio oversight with direct individual-contributor ownership of product delivery.
- Strong, hands-on product management fundamentals applied across concurrent products, including direct backlog ownership, writing and refining epics and user stories, defining acceptance criteria, sprint planning, acceptance testing, and release coordination.
- Track record managing software development resources, including offshore or contract developers, against scope, budget, and quality.
- Hands-on familiarity with generative-AI tools and platforms, including prompting and testing of AI APIs.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, with the presence to hold a room of partners and executives and the discipline to write clearly for technical and non-technical readers.
- Ability to learn new domains quickly and translate complex professional-services workflows into product requirements.
Preferred:
- Experience in public accounting or professional services.
- Experience scaling a product team or function from early stage to steady state.
- Exposure to agentic AI workflows, RAG architectures, or LLM integration patterns.
- Familiarity with the Microsoft 365 ecosystem (SharePoint, Teams, Power Platform).
- Familiarity with relevant domain software ecosystems (e.g., for tax: CCH Axcess, GoSystems, TaxCaddy).
