METROPOLITAN KNOXVILLE AIRPORT AUTHORITY

The Metropolitan Knoxville Airport Authority (MKAA) was established in 1978 as a nonprofit agency to own and operate the city's aviation system, McGhee Tyson Airport and Downtown Island Airport, and has recently celebrated a full 86-years of service to the East Tennessee area.  Being centrally located within a one day's drive or a few hours flight from major cities, MKAA continues to be integral to the air transportation system. The Position

Join our team as the Manager of Airfield Operations, where you’ll oversee all aspects of airside operations, ensuring safety, compliance, and efficiency for both commercial service and general aviation airports. Your responsibilities include directing aircraft positioning in holding areas, managing runway usage, and supervising apron operations. This role is ideal for someone with a passion for aviation and a knack for effective leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Enforce airfield policies, procedures, and industry standards, while also preparing reports on Airfield Operations activities and incidents.
  • Supervise scheduling for commercial air carriers, cargo, and charter flights, ensuring continuity of service and terminal efficiency during construction and irregular operations.
  • Lead the hiring, training, and evaluation of operations staff, providing guidance, feedback, and development opportunities.
  • Monitor airfield safety and security to ensure compliance with Federal and State regulations, including FAA Part 139, issuing Notices to Air Missions (NOTAMS) as needed.
  • Respond to emergencies, providing directions and support to airlines, tenants, contractors, and travelers.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service to airport users, coordinating after-hours maintenance and emergency repairs as necessary.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, airport operations, or a related field preferred.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of airport operations, FAA regulations (Part 139 and Part 77), project management principles, gate management software, and environmental/engineering regulations.
  • 5 or more years of related airport experience.
  • Leadership or team lead experience preferred.
  • Ability to effectively train, evaluate, and resolve conflicts within teams.
  • Proficiency in airfield communication tools and emergency operations, as well as budget management and finance principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects and deliver compelling presentations.
  • Certification as an Airport Certified Employee (ACE) by the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE), or the ability to achieve ACE certification within 2-years of employment.

Salary and Compensation

The starting salary range for this position is $86,456 - $112,392. An exceptional candidate may be eligible to receive a starting salary slightly above the range with approvals. MKAA offers a competitive benefit package for this position including medical/dental benefits, disability/life insurance, a 401(a) retirement program and relocation assistance. Final salary offer will be dependent upon experience.
