ALCOHOL AND DRUG COUNSELOR / INTAKE COORDINATOR -HYBRID


Alcohol and Drug Counselor


All job descriptions below are a general overview and are flexible based on the needs of the clients and the changing field of drug and alcohol counseling, except for qualifications designated by Minnesota statute.


Qualifications



  • Qualifications as outlined in MN Statue 245G.11: Subdivision 1. General qualifications. (a) All staff members who have direct contact must be 18 years of age or older.

  • At the time of employment, each staff member must meet the qualifications in this subdivision. For purposes of this subdivision, "problematic substance use" means a behavior or incident listed by the license holder in the personnel policies and procedures according to section 245G.13, subdivision 1, clause (5).

  • An alcohol and drug counselor must be licensed or exempt from licensure under Minnesota Statutes, chapter 148F. If exempt, they must be competent as evidenced by items listed in 245g subdivision 5, subpart b 1-5 They must comply with the rules adopted under MN Statutes, chapter 148F. The position may be filled by someone who qualifies with a temporary permit from the Minnesota Board of Behavioral Health and Therapy.

  • The ADC must pass a Minnesota Department of Human Resources background check.

  • The ADC document competence in screening for and working with clients with mental health problems through education, training, and experience.

  • The ADC has at least one year of supervised clinical experience in an outpatient setting.

  • If working with adolescents, must have 30 additional hours of classroom instruction or one three-credit semester college course in adolescent development and at least 150 hours of supervised experience as an adolescent counselor, either as a student or a staff member.

  • Must have self-awareness, accurate empathy, personal responsibility, openness, warmth, and respect for the client's dignity.

  • An Alcohol and Drug Counselor functions as a treatment team member. An Alcohol and Drug Counselor conducts group therapy and individual counseling, provides education, conducts comprehensive assessments, and completes all the record keeping, including managing documents and documenting of treatment services provided to a client.

  • An Alcohol and Drug Counselor is also competent and can perform all 12 core functions required for providing treatment services to Living Free Recovery Services clients.


Intake Coordinator


Qualifications 



  • Qualifications as outlined in MN Statue 245G.11: Subdivision 1. General qualifications. (a) All staff members who have direct contact with the minors must be 18 years of age or older. 245C.02, subdivision 11 defines "Direct contact" as providing face-to-face care, training, supervision, counseling, consultation, or medication assistance to persons served by the program.

  • At the time of employment, each staff member must meet the qualifications in this subdivision. For purposes of this subdivision, "problematic substance use" means a behavior or incident listed by the license holder in the personnel policies and procedures according to section 245G.13, Subdivision 1, Clause (5).

  • Must pass a Minnesota Department of Human Resources background check.



  • Know state and federal clients’ rights and staff responsibilities.

  • Have quality communication and human relation skills, maturity, poise, and the ability to organize information and maintain composure under pressure.

  • Must have an empathic understanding of those with substance use and mental health disorders to assist with issues and have a basic knowledge of the referral process.

  • This individual must be trained in a multi-line phone system and have computer experience in Microsoft Office and web-based programs.

  • Ability to assist Program Director and/or Executive Director with financial task(s) as directed. 


 


 Job Summary



  • This individual will provide quality services to Living Free Recovery Services clients, visitors, and staff. If certified as a Peer Recovery Specialist, services to clients will be defined by statutes and policy.

  • This person will address issues that arise with clients and staff pleasantly and expediently.

  • Duties include being the first to pleasantly greet clients and visitors by telephone or in person.

  • Responsibilities also include initial client screenings, gathering financial data, providing program information, and performing other miscellaneous duties as needed.

  • This individual will also assist in processing financial matters. This individual is not allowed to admit, transfer, or discharge clients. This position may coexist with other duties such as a peer recovery specialist.


The Intake Coordinator reports to the Program Director and/or Executive Director.
