Our employees are not only part of history, they\u0027re making history.\n\nThe Launch and Missile Defense Systems division within Northrop Grumman Space Systems has an exciting career opportunity for an experienced Algorithms Software Engineer level 5 with Linux environment and software development experience to join the Broadsword Algorithms team. The Broadsword program leverages OPIR data in supporting the software development and analysis of specialized combat systems that are providing advanced algorithms to improve tracking, prediction, and discrimination capabilities for emerging threats worldwide.\n\nThis position is located in in Huntsville, AL\n\nPosition Overview:\n\nAs a Senior Principal Algorithms Software Engineer on the Broadsword Team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, documenting, and debugging software and complex mathematical algorithms. This fast-paced and cutting-edge research and development environment will rely on your familiarity with modern software practices. You are expected to communicate technical information effectively and clearly, and present technical approaches and findings. Our team of motivated technical talent works closely with the end user (and each other) to ensure the direct mission applicability of developed products.\n\nEssential Functions:\n\n * Breadth and depth in the application of mathematics to perform data analysis and algorithm development for missile tracking applications.\n\n * Development and performance analysis of tracking and state estimation algorithms.\n\n * Tool and prototype development using Modern C++ and Python.\n\n * Algorithm defect tracking and resolution.\n\n * Technical Documentation as required.\n\n * Work in cross-discipline teams and communicate clearly across various levels of engineers.\n\n\n\n\nSeeking candidates who find satisfaction in working on challenging and diverse assignments in collaborative settings across all levels.\n\nBasic Qualifications:\n\n * Principal Algorithm Software Engineer (Level 5): Bachelor\u2019s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline preferred from an accredited university and 12 years of related experience, or a Master\u2019s degree in a STEM discipline and 10 years experience, or a PhD and 8 year of experience.\n\n * Applicants must have a current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD issued Secret security clearance at the time of application which is required to start; with the ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance.\n\n * Applicants must have a minimum of 1 year of software development experience with Python and/or C++.\n\n * Applicants must have Linux experience and working knowledge of common utilities like grep, awk, cat head, etc.\n\n * Experience developing, analyzing, testing, and implementing extendable / reusable algorithms.\n\n * Applicants must have algorithm design and state estimation experience.\n\n * Experience with data analysis - Population statistics and trend identification.\n\n * The ability to bridge between theoretical concepts and practical implementation.\n\n * Ability and willingness to travel up-to 10% to support business needs.\n\n\n\n\nPreferred Qualifications:\n\n * A current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD issued Top Secret security clearance.\n\n * Strong statistical background and skills.\n\n * Experience in tracking and prediction algorithms, simulation, and validation.\n\n * Experience with multiple hypothesis tracking.\n\n * Experience in the numerical implementation of motion filters.\n\n * Familiarity with Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR) and Electro-Optical Infrared (EOIR) sensors and simulations is a plus.\n\n\n\n\nWe Offer:\n\nNorthrop Grumman offers a comprehensive benefits package and a work environment that fosters your growth, supporting both employees and the company\u0027s success. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
