About the Job
We need you to fill the role of AmeriCorps Community Case Manager. Shalom Austin is the hub of Jewish life in Central Texas. We provide services and resources to connect, empower and impact the community and when individuals or families encounter a crisis and find themselves worrying about meeting their basic needs, Shalom Austin Jewish Family Service (JFS) is here to respond. AmeriCorps Members serving with the case management team will support JFS clients’ financial mobility and independence, through financial coaching and social service delivery. This is a part-time position and this location requires a total service commitment of 900 hours (approximately 29 hours per week). You’ll wow us by masterfully performing the following key duties and responsibilities:
Case Management and Financial Coaching
- Assess client need, financial situation and ensure use of governments benefits and attend to immediate needs.
- Identify barriers to self-sufficiency and assess client’s ability to locate other resources.
- Work with clients to develop and manage a budget.
- Establish short-term and long-term goals and create and implement individual care plans to stabilize clients with goal of self-sufficiency.
- Assist clients with disabilities in connecting with government benefits, community programs and resources, and social opportunities in the Greater Austin area.
Basic Needs Support
- Review, assess, and determine level of financial assistance based on circumstances and guidelines.
- Provide additional social services to clients as needed, such as advocacy, service linkage and referral, and collaboration with other providers.
- Assist clients in navigating eligible services, such as SNAP, Medicaid/CHIP, housing, or other applicable resources.
- Develop a network of referrals to various agencies and community resources.
- Monitor effectiveness of referrals for service provision to agency clients.
Collaboration
- Refer clients to counseling when appropriate and collaborate with all Shalom Austin staff to serve the needs of clients and community.
- Collaborate with other institutions and professionals in the Jewish community, and in the Austin mental health and social services network.
- Work with JFS staff to ensure tasks such as scheduling rides, appointments and other services offered by the organization are completed for each client.
Documentation and Record Keeping
- Monitor and document client progress towards financial goals and self-sufficiency goals.
- Always maintain client confidentiality.
- Utilize measurement tools that assess and document client’s progress.
- Maintain detailed, up-to-date, accurate, and well-written documentation for client files.
- Provide statistical data about service delivery.
- Manage financial aid funds balancing the guidelines with the needs of our clients.
Community Outreach and Education
- Maintain positive relationships with community partners and resources.
- Engage in ongoing outreach and community engagement through implementation of psychoeducation, community events, collaboration, and networking.

Competency: Comfort and experience with interviewing, case management, coaching clients in-person and online. Working knowledge of Greater Austin social service resources and referrals. Adheres to legal and ethical standards of care, incl scope of practice, client privacy and record-keeping, HIPAA, and cultural competency.
Work environment: Perform in-office in accordance with agency policies.
Physical demands: Must be able to meet routine office physical demands including climbing stairs, carrying up to 20-pound objects and possessing the dexterity and vision to operate office computers and equipment.
Position type and expected hours of work: 29 hours weekly, Regular business hours, attend occasional organization events and programs occurring on evenings and weekends, as requested.
