Job Description - API Inspector / Inspection Service Manager
The Inspection Services Manager oversees all field inspection activities related to aboveground storage tanks, ensuring compliance with API 653, OSHA regulations, and client-specific requirements. This role combines technical API 653 inspection duties with leadership and operational oversight. The manager is responsible for supervising inspection crews, coordinating scheduling and logistics, maintaining client relationships, and driving operational excellence across inspection projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform API 653 inspections to meet client demand and maintain compliance with industry standards.
Supervise inspectors and technicians performing both in-service and out-of-service tank inspections.
Manage daily operations including staffing, resource allocation, scheduling, safety compliance, and inspection reporting.
Conduct site visits to verify adherence to API 653, OSHA, and other regulatory and company standards.
Troubleshoot technical issues in the field and provide guidance to crews.
Ensure inspection equipment is properly maintained, calibrated, and certified.
Train and mentor inspection staff on technical practices, safety protocols, and ensure certifications remain current.
Review field reports for accuracy and completeness; ensure timely submission for client report generation.
Monitor crew productivity and accuracy of daily timesheets.
Maintain communication with clients, providing regular progress updates.
Identify and document scope changes or delays; initiate change order requests when necessary.
Assist with quoting, budgeting, and proposal preparation.
Support equipment procurement decisions through technical and business justification.
Required Qualifications:
Must hold API Certification and have API Inspection work experience.
Must be technically competent and knowledgeable in the application of the current inspection codes.
