Job Description

At Fortune Brands Innovations, the General Manager for a specific channel within a Business Unit or Group drives overall performance and profitability through strategic leadership and operational excellence. This role owns setting both long- and short-term strategic visions and transforming them into actionable 4P strategies: Product, Price, Place, and Promotion while allocating resources appropriately to drive results for the Connected Security brands and business. Additionally, the role is responsible for partnering with the relevant sales leaders across the BUs to deliver profitable growth.  The General Manager will guide cross-functional collaboration across Sales (retail, Ecomm, B2B partnerships, etc.), Centers of Excellence (COEs), Supply Chain, and Core Functions to meet financial targets (top and bottom-line growth) while building market-leading brand impact.

 

This role requires a visionary leader with deep expertise in IoT, smart home technologies, and consumer-centric innovation.  The General Manager will lead cross-functional teams to deliver market-leading solutions that enhance the end-user experience with water.

 

Direct reports include Connected Hardware and Software Product Management and Product Design leaders.

 

As the single point of contact for their channel, the General Manager is empowered to lead cross-functional, matrixed teams, fostering collaboration to achieve results. Success in this role demands deep category expertise, a strategic mindset, strong leadership, and the ability to execute decisively. The ideal candidate will possess the following key capabilities:

  • Strategic Vision and Planning: Craft and execute innovative strategies that drive growth and market share while fostering continuous learning and adaptability. Establish a vision for the business and lead the team to drive continued digital transformation in the face of an increasingly dynamic market 
  • Leadership and Decision-Making: Confidently make critical business decisions, balancing bold vision with calculated risk-taking.
  • Cross-functional orchestration: Ensure alignment and seamless collaboration between internal teams to deliver on objectives.
  • Execution Excellence: Translate strategy into action by driving operational rigor and ensuring successful outcomes.

 

Key Responsibilities:

P&L Delivery:

  • Deliver the annual AOP performance of the Channel in partnership with sales resources, ensuring net sales exceed market growth and delivering on Operating Income (OI) and Working Capital Efficiency (WCE) targets.
  • Develop and execute a 3-year category strategy in collaboration with the Strategy COE to achieve sustainable growth and profitability.

Category Strategy Development & Execution:

  • Develop and drive long-term (3 yr) and short-term (1 yr) category strategies, working closely with the President and key COE partners to ensure business/brand growth and market position are enhanced in alignment with the company’s goals and vision to THINK BIG. 
  • Lead strategy development for the effective launch of new solutions, partnerships and investments to drive aggressive market growth and ecosystem expansion
  • Serve as the holistic voice of the category by synthesizing insights from customers, consumers/pros, and competitors. Continuously monitor industry trends and competitor activities to anticipate shifts, inform strategy, and LEARN FAST.

4P Management (Product, Price, Place, Promotion): Translate the category vision into effective 4P strategies, ensuring cross-functional execution to WORK IT TOGETHER:

  • Product:
    • Collaborate with R&D, Design, and Supply Chain teams to optimize product offerings and drive innovation tailored to category needs.
    • Define and maintain long-term product roadmap, optimal portfolio, and product lifecycle management.
    • Establish value propositions for our products by leveraging market insights and customer needs.
    • Ensure supply accuracy through robust SIOP planning and inventory management.
    • Orchestrate new product launches and post-launch performance reviews with cross-functions.
  • Price:
    • Develop pricing models that balance competitiveness, profitability, and strategic positioning.
    • Set long-term product pricing and short-term promotional pricing in collaboration with RGM
  •  Place:
    • Influence distribution strategies to ensure optimized product availability through key retail, e-commerce, and direct-to-consumer channels.
    • Lead sales to define and execute long-term distribution plans and support sell-in efforts.
  • Promotion:
    • Lead channel marketing on promotional strategy, including advertising, sales campaigns, and in-store activations to build brand awareness and drive consumer engagement.
    • Empower channel marketing with the value propositions they can transform into creative marketing and branding (in partnership with the Brand COE).

Cross-functional Leadership:

  • Empowered to make the hard call on day-to-day cross-functional decisions to deliver on overall targets.   
  • Act as the single point of contact for the vertical segment/brand, ensuring collaboration across Sales, Marketing, Product Development, Innovation, Connected Products, Supply Chain, R&D, Finance, and Operations teams to drive success.
  • Lead and influence matrix teams, ensuring alignment across multiple departments to execute category strategies effectively.
  • Manage the category P&L, ensuring financial targets are met, and profitability is optimized through cost management and revenue generation.

Team Development & Leadership:

  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team promoting growth and excellence.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and results-driven performance within the team and across the organization.
  • Drive continuous development by implementing individualized growth plans and offering performance feedback.
  • Establish clear, direct and aligned goals and hold the team and yourself accountable to achieving them.

Stakeholder Management:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key external partners, including retailers, suppliers, and third-party agencies, to ensure the seamless execution of category plans.
  • Provide regular performance updates and strategic recommendations to the Security & Connected Products President, key executives, and senior leadership.
  • Represent the vertical segment/brand in high-level discussions and cross-functional initiatives.

 

Key Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, or related field; MBA preferred.
  • Experience: 15+ years of experience in sales leadership, category management, brand management, or product management within the consumer or wholesale/commercial goods industry.
  • Leadership: Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams, manage complex projects, and drive business results in a matrix environment.
  • P&L Ownership: Demonstrated experience managing P&L for a category or business, demonstrating financial acumen and the ability to balance short-term and long-term goals.
  • Strategic Thinking: Demonstrated ability to develop and execute long-term category strategies that align with broader organizational objectives.
  • Technical Acumen: Strong understanding of connected technologies, cloud platforms, and consumer experience design.
  • Financial Acumen:  Experience managing P&Ls, pricing strategies, and investment planning
  • Collaboration: Experience working in a matrix organization, demonstrating the ability to influence and align multiple stakeholders acrossthe organization..
  • Industry Knowledge: In-depth understanding of the consumer or wholesale/commercial goods industry, market trends, consumer behavior, and competitive landscape.

Fortune Brands believes in fair and equitable pay. A reasonable estimate of the base salary range for this role is Hiring Pay Range: $60,000 USD - $99,000 USD. Please note that actual salaries may vary within the range, or be above or below the range, based on factors including, but not limited to, education, training, experience, professional achievement, business need, and location. In addition to base salary, employees will participate in either an annual bonus plan based on company and individual performance, or a role-based sales incentive plan.
