JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary/Objective

The Aquaculture Technician II will demonstrate a passion for fish husbandry, a good work ethic, attention to detail and have good record keeping skills ensuring the success of the department. 

Essential Functions

1. Perform daily duties or chores and husbandry activities including:
2. Feeding, mortality removal, screen scrubbing, etc. (see list)
3. Apply thorough record keeping skills. 
4. Monitor fish behavior and bring any abnormalities to supervisor attention.
5. Perform routine maintenance on systems and equipment. Perform routine cleaning as necessary on a regular basis in addition to the daily chore list. 
6. Duties include swirl separator scrubbing (3 x week), dip net repair, cover repairs, etc. (Communication with supervisor is essential.)
7. Follow feed charts according to plan. Monitor and report feed inventory.
8. Organize and maintain hatchery tools, equipment and grounds; respond to alarms; identify safety hazards and recommend remedies and/or take appropriate action.
9. Assist with fish transfers.
10. Assist with brood stock sorting and spawning according to protocols. Keep up to date with changing protocols as improvements are made and make suggestions for improvements. 
11. Work with supervisor on photo periods to ensure that daylight hours (timers) stay on the photo period schedules. 
12. Assist with environmental, water quality testing to stay within established parameters. This includes water flows to tanks and systems.
13. Work in other site areas as directed.

Supervisory Responsibility

• This position does not have supervisory responsibility. 

Work Environment

• This job operates in an outdoor farm environment. This role is routinely exposed to inclement weather conditions. The role occasionally requires the use of office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Demands

• The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
• This is a physically demanding role. This would require the ability to occasionally lift up to 75 pounds with the ability regularly to lift up to 50 pounds. The ability to stand, walk, bend, squat, twist, hear, see and the ability to use all senses with or without reasonable accommodation is required. 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

• This is a full-time position, 5 days a week, which could include Saturdays or Sundays, 7:00 a.m. to 4 p.m., with some on call availability necessary. On call availability requires close proximity to the site. 

Travel

• Minimal travel may be required for this position.

Required Education and Experience

1. H.S. diploma or G.E.D. required.
2. Valid Washington State Driver’s License 

 Preferred Education and Experience

1. Aquaculture experience preferred.
2. Aquaculture or related degree preferred.
