Aquatic Supervisor

Description

The Westfield Area YMCA is currently looking for a Full-Time Aquatics Supervisor. The Aquatic Supervisor is responsible for maintaining safe swimming conditions in the pool, on deck, and surrounding areas. In the absence of a Directors, the Aquatic Supervisor will ensure the Aquatic Department and all aquatic staff uphold the high level of safety and satisfaction as per the Westfield Area Y’s Policies and Procedures.

Applicants must be willing to spend the majority of their time on deck and/or in the water as a lead swim instructor.  

Schedule:   40 hours per week;  will include nights and weekends

Pay:  Starting at $20 per hour, depending on experience and certification held

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

• Assist Aquatic Director in training lifeguards and swim instructors through in-services, first day orientations, and instructional classes
• Assist Aquatic Director in performing/recording spot checks on Aquatic staff
• Assist Aquatic Director with scheduling and administrative tasks, as assigned
• Effectively lifeguard and instruct swim lessons, as assigned
• Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with Westfield Area YMCA policies, procedures and current certification requirements. Completes related incident reports as required.
• Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic environments. Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state Health Department code
• Ensure that Lifeguards and Swim Instructors are acting in accordance with Westfield Area Y policies and procedures. Inform staff and correct inappropriate actions on the spot and direct to a Director for follow-up
• Maintain active surveillance of the pool areas to ensure a safe, obstacle free environment
• Maintain positive relationships with members, participants and staff
• Resolve members’ problems and/or concerns, and report the same to supervisor through exemplary customer service skills.
• Ensure Swim Tests are being performed and recorded as needed
• Evaluate new/current swimmers and be able to recommend appropriate swim level

Requirements

• Experience leading swimming lessons of different ages and abilities, preferably at a YMCA
• American Red Cross or YMCA Lifeguard certification
• Swim instructor certification
• BLS or CPR for the Professional Rescuer; First Aid/EPI/Asthma; and Emergency Oxygen certifications
• LGI (Lifeguard Instructor) certification preferred, but not required
• Must have the capabilities and maturity to handle the responsibilities involved in maintaining a safe pool environment and be able to create and maintain positive relations with members, participants and staff effectively.
