Job Description - Aquatics Cleaning Specialist


POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direct supervision of the Associate Aquatics Director, The Aquatic Cleaning Specialist is responsible for ensuring the cleanliness, safety, and operational efficiency of the Edwardsville YMCA's aquatic facilities. This individual will perform a variety of tasks related to pool cleaning, and upkeep, contributing to a positive and healthy environment for all members and guests.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Perform regular vacuuming of all YMCA pools (e.g., lap pool, recreation pool, outdoor pool-seasonal) to remove debris and maintain water clarity.
  2. Powerwash pool decks and other aquatic areas to ensure cleanliness and sanitation.
  3. Clean and maintain pool tiles, gutters, and other pool features.
  4. Occasionally empty trash receptacles and maintain cleanliness of all aquatic common areas.
  5. Monitor and report any unusual conditions or malfunctions of pool equipment/supplies to the Associate Aquatics Director and/or Director of Aquatics and Youth Development.
  6. Ensure adequate stock of cleaning supplies and report needs for reordering.
  7. Adhere to all YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to safety, hygiene, and emergency protocols.
  8. Maintain a positive and professional demeanor while interacting with staff and members.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned by the Associate Aquatics Director and Director of Aquatics and Youth Development.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  2. Prior experience in cleaning, or a related field is a plus, but not required (training will be provided).
  3. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  4. Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness and safety.
  5. Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  6. Must be able to work varied part-time hours, which may include early mornings, evenings, and weekends.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Ability to regularly lift, carry, and move up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, and crouching.
  • Ability to work in a consistently humid and warm environment.
  • Comfortable working with and around cleaning chemicals.
  • Good visual acuity and manual dexterity.

Work Environment:

This position primarily operates within the aquatic facilities of the Edwardsville YMCA, which includes swimming pools and surrounding deck areas. The environment will be consistently humid and may be noisy at times. Exposure to pool chemicals is inherent to the position.


Salary Description

$17/hour
