Pay Range: $20.22/hour-$22.10/hour

 
POSITION SUMMARY:

The Aquatics Coordinator is responsible for Swim Instruction oversight and serves as the Head Swim Coach. The Coordinator provides leadership, works with the Director on hiring, training, developing, scheduling, and implementing swim lesson instruction and provides leadership, instruction, and motivation for swim team participants and assistant coaches. The Aquatics Coordinator creates a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals and promotes safety in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Mentors and leads swim coaching and instructor staff.
  • Assists with recruiting, onboarding, training, and supervising new staff and volunteers.
  • Supports the Aquatics Director with staff oversight and development.
  • Plans and conducts swim team practices and lessons in line with YMCA/ARC guidelines.
  • Assigns swimmers to appropriate groups and events; ensures participation in meets.
  • Develops swimmers’ skills and fosters team involvement.
  • Assesses and promotes participant progress through swim levels.
  • Organizes and manages YMCA and USA league swim meets.
  • Coordinates athlete participation and volunteer involvement at events.
  • Maintains required records (attendance, progress, incidents).
  • Assists with scheduling, program planning, and equipment management.
  • Communicates program information to participants and families.
  • Enforces safety policies and emergency procedures.
  • Responds to incidents and completes necessary reports.
  • Builds positive relationships with members, families, and staff.
  • Promotes YMCA values: caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
  • Encourages community involvement and volunteerism.
  • Attends staff meetings and trainings.
  • Wears approved uniform and performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum age of 18 years old.
  • Two or more years previous coaching experience; three or more years swim team experience.
  • One-year experience in swim instruction.
  • Current YMCA & USA Swim Coach certification.
  • YMCA/ARC Swim Instructor certification or equivalent, preferred.
  • CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid certifications required. 
  • Must be able to demonstrate swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
  • Current ARC or YMCA Lifeguard certification.
  • Current CPR PRO & First Aid certifications.
