Your Opportunity

As a Stantec Aquatics Design Engineer, you will have the opportunity to lead and work as part of a team on community-based and high-profile projects for a range of public and private sector clients. This is an exciting opportunity to join a collaborative team of landscape architects, architects, and civil, mechanical, electrical, structural and ice engineers in creating one-of-a-kind recreational destination amenities and more traditional sport complexes and high-performance athletic facilities. Potential aquatics-related projects include but are not limited to: indoor and outdoor facilities; new and renovated facilities; recreational and competitive swimming pools; interactive and decorative fountains; splash pads; and other one-of-a-kind and once-in-a-generation type facilities.

Your Key Responsibilities
Interface with existing and prospective clients (both internal and external to Stantec) for business development, project procurement, project delivery, quality assurance, construction administration, and project close out.
Collaborate with our landscape architecture and architectural design teams to generate unique and innovative designs for recreation venue projects involving aquatics facilities and features.
Lead and mentor staff members who support the aquatic and ice system design, engineering, and construction oversight.
Identify needs within our service offerings and work with business partners to fill key positions through internal and external recruiting.
Lead a technical team to oversee the preparation of plans, specifications, schedules, and details from conceptual design through construction administration.
Prepare initial concept designs within the aquatic disciplines.
Ability to be fiscally responsible and produce estimates of probable construction costs at all stages of a project.
Support the project team in development of design documentation, plans, interpretation of codes, and reports for project design elements.
Coordinate with other building disciplines (landscape architectural, architectural, structural, electrical, civil, etc.) to ensure consistency and clarity in design intent. Review of shop drawings and submittals, respond to RFIs, prepare site observation reports, and perform and/or assign staff to conduct these and related construction administration tasks.
Provide various levels of project management duties dependent on project specifics.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials
Working knowledge of software programs and their project applicability and efficiencies including AutoCAD, and familiarity with capabilities of Revit or similar 3D design software.
Ability to interpret sketches, drawings, building program and other similar material.
Expertise in the operational systems for aquatics facilities and the ability to build a team with these requisite skills.
Expertise in the selection and sizing of aquatic amenities, treatment system components, pumps, piping, and other aquatic related components.
Knowledge and interpretations of codes and standards that apply to aquatic facilities.
Knowledge of indoor and outdoor aquatics design practices and construction methodology.
Able to work on multiple projects concurrently and meet deadlines.
Ability to solve problems using sound professional judgment, creativity, and innovation.
Ability to participate and collaborate in a project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.
Strong organizational and project management skills, along with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and demonstrate a flexible approach to work assignments.
Strong desire to mentor and work as a contributing team member within a multidiscipline engineering and design team.
Recognize when technical problems are developing and initiate appropriate corrective actions.
Ability to work with Microsoft Office Suite.
Exceptional communication skills across disciplines and with all client types (public and private sector).
Knowledge and ability to lead project procurement (scoping, contract review, fee schedules, etc.)
Successful track record of client satisfaction and business development in the aquatics related market.

Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in engineering with a minimum of 5 years' experience, 10 years preferred.
Professional registration in engineering is preferred with ability to obtain registration in other states, provinces, jurisdictions as required.
Relevant project experience that demonstrates your management, design, and/or technical application of skills for aquatic facilities.

Work Environment

Typical office environment working with a desktop or laptop. Travel, including field work, may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Regional, national and/or North American based travel for business development is likely. Presence in the office at least three days per week is preferred. Stantec's Minneapolis office is the preferred office location, though the actual office location for the selected candidate is flexible.
