Job Description - Aquatics Operations Lead





Description

The Summer Seasonal Full-Time Aquatics Operations Lead is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the YMCA’s aquatic facilities during the summer season. This role ensures a safe, clean, and welcoming aquatic environment for all members, staff, and guests. The Aquatics Operations Lead provides leadership in lifeguarding, safety compliance, and staff coordination while upholding the YMCA’s mission and values.


Requirements

  •  Supervise and lead the aquatics team, including lifeguards, ensuring high standards of performance and professionalism.
  • Monitor and enforce all aquatic safety protocols and YMCA policies to provide a safe swimming environment.
  • Assist in training, scheduling, and evaluating aquatics staff.
  • Maintain proper chemical balance and cleanliness of pools by conducting routine water tests and coordinating necessary adjustments.
  • Respond quickly and effectively to all aquatic emergencies and provide necessary first aid or CPR as required.
  • Ensure compliance with YMCA policies and procedures.
  • As needed, assist with the setup and breakdown of aquatic equipment for programs, classes, and special events.
  • Serve as a key point of contact for members, addressing concerns and inquiries regarding aquatic programs and facilities.
  • Effectively navigate conflict resolution and maintain professional communication when addressing members and staff in regard to concerns with safety, programs, and general dissatisfaction.
  • Conduct routine inspections of the facility, reporting and addressing maintenance and repair needs.
  • Promote the YMCA’s mission and values by fostering a positive and inclusive environment.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework in recreation, exercise science, or related fields preferred.
  • Current certifications in American Red Cross Lifeguarding, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, and First Aid (YMCA, Eliis, or equivalent accepted at time of hire) required prior to first scheduled shift.
  • The Y will train uncertified candidates.
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) certification preferred.
  • The Y will find a training for uncertified candidates.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in aquatic operations or a related leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of pool operations, chemical testing, and safety procedures.
  • The Y will train the right individual.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, as needed.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

  • Physically demanding environment with frequent standing, swimming, bending, and lifting (up to 50 lbs).
  • Outdoor and indoor settings with exposure to heat, humidity, and pool chemicals.
  • Requires alertness and the ability to react quickly in emergency situations.
