Architect
Position Overview: Under direction of a senior architect, is responsible for performing professional work managing the development, review, and approval of the design and construction of county buildings and facilities and for providing technical assistance to other related building construction. May lead a vertical project management team. Exercises functional supervision over assigned staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Programs, designs, draws, and writes technical specifications for County
projects. Reviews plans, specifications, cost estimates, and inspects sites
during construction operations. Directs and participates in project development for one of the project management teams. Establishes and assists the setting of preliminary programs, budgets, and schedules to meet project needs and makes recommendations
to the County Engineer on the project delivery method. Manage consultants and oversee work products/manage. Develops reports and presentations on projects to staff and the
general public. Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as directed. NOTE: Criminal and CPS background check required prior to hiring and E-Verify upon hiring. Education:
Bachelor in
architecture
from an accredited college or university Experience:
Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in
architecture. Licensure:
Licensed to practice as a Registered Architect in the State of Texas
OR
ability to obtain license to practice in the State of Texas within one
(1) year of employment. Valid driver’s license (Texas upon hire), and a good driving record Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of architectural principles and practices, particularly in the design and construction of governmental, commercial, and institutional buildings. Knowledge of building, development, and accessibility codes and the principles of sustainable buildings and facilities. Knowledge of construction practices, materials, systems and the ability to develop cost estimates and schedules for building construction projects. Skilled in utilizing a personal computer and associated software programs. Familiarity with and ability to read and interpret plans and specifications and knowledge of construction protocols and contract provisions. Ability to prepare clear and concise reports, both narrative and graphic representations. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, and to make presentations to groups often unfamiliar with facility design and construction. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with staff, stakeholder groups, other public agencies and the general public. NOTE

(preferred) Position Type, and Typical Hours of Work:
Full-Time | Regular | 40 hours per week Monday - Friday | 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Subject to early mornings, late evenings, weekends and holidays at times, depending upon the project or workload.

Commensurate with experience, based on 26 pay periods Location:
Most assignments will be performed in an office, meeting, or operations command center environment, but some field work may be required. May be required to work extended work hours during activation of disaster recovery operations for an unspecified length of time (varies based on the extent of the event). This position requires bending, stooping, and lifting up to 25 lbs., frequent walking, standing, sitting, reaching, and ascending/descending stairs.
