Facilities Development and Management, Office of the University Architect, seeks an Architect Principal. This position will be responsible for performing in-house, comprehensive architectural programming and/or coordinate outside consultants in the preparation of such. Prepare due-diligence analysis of existing buildings/areas and prepare reports to support comprehensive architectural programming statements.
Proactively manage stakeholder expectations during the project design process. Participate in the negotiation of professional design service contracts with outside consultants.
Essential Duties
Coordinate Subject Matter Expert Team (Team Delta) activities, including work order assignments, workload management, work quality oversite, and reporting. Oversees SME integration with both launch and implementation teams.
Assist Launch Team Lead in developing processes, preparing reports for upper management, and preparing for and presenting at meetings with leadership and clients.
Develop Project Estimates, Programming documents, Test Fit Exhibits, Owners Project Requirements Documents, and Project Charters for all assigned project requests.
Primary point of contact for all client issues within project initiation (Launch Team).
Oversight and creation of communication presentations to clients, leadership, public agencies, and project team members..
Coordinate communication in the decision-making process with appropriate ASU stakeholders, and make timely decisions.
Coordinate and manage projects in accordance with Arizona Board of Regents policies and ASU Project Guidelines.
Ensure that documents submitted by Design Professionals are reviewed for quality, coordination, and compliance with the requirements of deliverables and client standards in all phases.
Work closely with the University Planners office and relevant stakeholders to determine project
scope.
Attend and represent the University at meetings for compliance with the Arizona Board of Regents and University policies and standards.
Prepare conceptual budget estimates based on programming documents with multiple resources.
Negotiate fee with selected design professionals and prepare contract ensuring cost will be within Arizona Board of Regents guidelines.
Participate in Campus Master Planning activities.
Supervise activities of subordinates.
Coach and mentor assigned team members and provide performance-enhancing feedback.
Regular activities require ability to adapt to changing priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
DAYS AND SCHEDULE: Monday- Friday, 8:00AM - 5:00PM
This position is based at ASU’s Tempe campus and may require working from other campuses depending on operational needs.
Salary range:
$95,000-$125,000 annually, commensurate of experience and education. ASU offers a comprehensive benefits package with the State of Arizona

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture

Experience in
Higher Education building types, including research, classroom and student spaces
leading teams while managing complex large-scale projects
managing professional design service contracts with consultants
engaging project stakeholders in the decision-making process
making executive committee design presentations and exhibits
Demonstrated knowledge of:
Life Safety and International Building Code requirements
Cost estimating of construction projects and A/E design fees
AutoCAD, Revit, Sketch-Up, or other electronic sketching software
Experience in the creation of Construction Documents and Detailing
Specification Writing
Effective communication skills
Working Environment
Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work.
Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds.
Drives University vehicle and/or cart to campus sites.
