Overview

Harper Construction is seeking a disciplined and detail-oriented Architectural Job Captain to join our Design Department in San Diego. This role offers a unique opportunity to work in a fully integrated Design-Build environment, where architectural designs are developed and constructed under the same roof. The successful candidate will be a graduate of an accredited architecture program with strong technical skills and a desire to grow professionally under the mentorship of licensed architectural professionals. Harper’s projects range in scale and complexity and include military, federal, private, and educational (DSA) facilities.

Primary Responsibilities


  • Lead the architectural production process from schematic design through construction administration, ensuring deliverables meet quality, schedule, and code compliance requirements.

  • Develop coordinated and buildable 3D models and 2D documentation using Revit for a diverse portfolio of projects.

  • Coordinate architectural designs with engineering, construction, and consultant teams to ensure integrated, constructible solutions.

  • Participate in construction administration tasks, including responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, and conducting site visits to verify conformance with the contract documents.

  • Apply a comprehensive understanding of applicable design codes and regulatory requirements, including:


    • International Building Code (IBC)

    • California Building Code (CBC)

    • Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) / Architectural Barriers Act (ABA)

    • DSA accessibility and life safety criteria

    • General familiarity with Unified Facilities Criteria (UFCs) for federal and military projects


Qualifications


  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Architecture (required).

  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of architectural experience, preferably in construction documentation and coordination. Candidates with more experience are strongly encouraged to apply; pay is commensurate with experience.

  • Technical Skills: Expert in Revit and AutoCAD; Proficiency with BIM coordination platforms (e.g., Navisworks, BIM360).

  • Project Experience: Demonstrated history of successfully contributing to federal, military, educational (DSA), and private sector projects.

Compensation and Benefits


  • $100,000 to $115,000 salary range


    • The offered rate will be based on the candidate’s knowledge, skills, abilities and/or experience.


  • This position is eligible for our benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life, and supplemental insurance. We also offer a 401(k) plan with company match, company paid holidays and vacation.
