Job Description - Area Coordinator

Description

Keuka College is seeking a dedicated and student-focused Area Coordinator to join the Division of Student Development.   The Area Coordinator plays an integral role in shaping the experience of all students and will assist in developing a premier residential and commuter experience that supports the mission, vision, and values of Keuka College. The Area Coordinator is a key member within the Division of Student Development with responsibilities related to student life, critical campus emergency response, and engaging and assisting students with their experience on campus. The Area Coordinator is a full-time, 11-month, live-in position (mandatory) that will require evening, weekend, and on-call hours with remuneration including salary and housing.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Supervise one or more Graduate Assistant(s).
  • Provide support as necessary to the Associate Director of Campus Life including onboarding, training, programming, and assessment of Graduate Assistants.
  • Oversee administrative functional area in either advising Campus Activities Board and/or supervision of Orientation Leaders and Peer Mentors.
    • Advise Campus Activities Board through weekly board meetings and membership engagement opportunities.  Ensure events align and support budget, logistics, risk management and Keuka College Mission, Vision, and Values for events.
    • Direct supervision of Orientation Leaders and Peer Mentors including, but not limited to, holding staff meetings, one-on-ones, training, further development, and a resource.
  • Select, supervise, train, further develop, and evaluate Graduate Assistants, Orientation Leaders, Peer Mentors, and, as needed, Resident Assistant staff through the selection process, weekly staff meetings, bi-weekly individual meetings bi-annual training, in-service, and provide additional development opportunities.
  • Coordinate and attend to all aspects of residence hall/apartment complex openings/closings, including breaks.
  • Support the department of Campus Life in operating, supervising, and overseeing all administrative functions of multiple residence halls and/or apartment complexes. This support may include residential building and security measures, health and safety inspections, fire drills and inspections, roster verification, room assignments and changes, Room Condition Reports, work requisition process, key management, damage billing, and more. 
  • Serve as a resource to all students providing support and connecting students to support services in areas of intrapersonal conflicts, personal health and wellness, and academic success including follow up to ensure satisfactory resolution. 
  • Enforce community standards, the student code of conduct, housing and meal plan contracts, and college policies and regulations as outlined in the Student Handbook, including periodic service as a Conduct Hearing Officer for Student Conduct and Community Standards system.
  • Foster a sense of community on campus through late night, weekend, break, and general programming initiatives through the department of Campus Life and through the use of Slate.
  • Assess programming effectiveness for the Office of Campus Life.
  • Utilize and become proficient with housing software system.
  • Support programming initiatives for Wolf Week – New Student Orientation (NSO).
  • Assist in coordination of Week of Welcome events (WOW).
  • Function as a Campus Security Authority (CSA).
  • Participate in the on-call duty rotation, participating in crisis and emergency management and response.
  • Actively participate in campus, divisional, and departmental meetings, committees, training, development, and mandatory group activities.
  • Be actively engaged in the promotion and support of departmental, divisional, institutional directions in alliance with Community & Belonging initiatives.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is expected and required.
  • Perform other functions as assigned by management.

Physical Requirements:

  • Occasional evening hours / weekends
  • Occasional lifting up to 25lbs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, Master's degree in Higher Education, Student Personnel Administration, or related field preferred.
  • Two years' experience in Residence Life as a paraprofessional or professional staff member preferred. 
  • Ability to work independently with high attention to detail. 
  • Possess strong organizational skills, excellent interpersonal and customer service skills required. Ability to work well with a wide variety of work styles and diverse populations. Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing. 
  • Understand and behave with a high level of integrity and complete confidentiality at times. 
  • Must be sensitive to and respond to needs/concerns of students, faculty, college staff, campus partners, and the public. 
  • Ability to work under pressure with a high tolerance for interruptions, and the ability to work with a diverse group of people.
