JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary

The Area Manager is responsible for leading and directing production staff and operations at their assigned plant. The Area Manager is responsible for achieving the Company’s objectives and KPIs (including production, capital, costs, and quality) by effectively leading the operation’s employees and managing and ensuring compliance with company policies and programs and government legislation and regulations in safety, quality, and environmental matters. The Area Manager is also responsible for maintaining positive employee relations by using their professional and effective supervisory skills, providing mentoring, training, and development for their workforce, and administering and managing the Company’s attendance and disciplinary policies. 

Functional Responsibilities

  •  Exhibit a strong work ethic with the ability to take direction and work in a team setting and independently.
  •  Adhere to Permian Basin Materials Code of Conduct and company policies.
  •  Provide leadership to the personnel in their plant to implement the company’s strategy and achieve the PBM’s annual goals and objectives and management’s specific goals, metrics and KPI’s established for the plant. 
  •  Direct and lead plant production operations, preventative maintenance, quality control, and loadout and shipping activities with a “Safety Always” expectation and mandate always primary. 
  •  Responsible for the effective planning, scheduling, deployment and utilization of the workforce, production equipment, and preventative and scheduled maintenance and repair. 
  •  With executive management, develop and review budget data, operating costs and operating co-efficient, and forecast data to determine progress toward established goals and objectives that he/she is accountable for. Effectively address areas that are identified as not meeting stated goals and objectives. 
  •  Assist in the development of new or improved operational methods to reduce costs.
  •  Work with executive management to review achievements and plans and implement required changes to goals or objectives from current status and conditions. Focus on continuous improvement in all areas with respect to efficiency, effectiveness in operating related metrics and KPIs .  
  •  Ensure that the plant is in compliance with all Company policies and procedures and applicable legislation and regulations, including but not limited to employment, environmental, permitting and reclamation related matters.
  •  Lead the Company’s safety program to achieve zero lost time accidents and ensure that the operations in their assigned area are in full compliance with all company health and safety policies and procedures and applicable legislation and regulations (MSHA and OSHA).
  •  Hire, or effectively recommend hiring of employees after interviewing and selecting candidates for hire. Incumbent is responsible for taking disciplinary action or effectively recommending discipline, up to and including termination or employment.
  •  Maintain a high level of employee morale at the plants. Demonstrate leadership and ensure that a positive employee relations environment is maintained through an open-door policy, by addressing employee issues and concerns in a timely manner.
  •  Ensure that new and promoted employees receive the required training to meet fully competent standards, and that developmental experiential and, formal training programs in conjunction with performance mentoring and feedback are on-going.
  •  As part of the PBM management team, the Area Manager is a key contributor and participant on the Ready-Mix management team as well as being an effective, positive team player with all company staff and support departments and functions.
  •  Perform other duties as assigned.

Competencies

  •  Thorough knowledge of Ready-Mix mixtures and specifications.
  •  Exceptional verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills. Bilingual competency in English and Spanish is an asset and preferred.
  •  Extremely capable of relating to individuals at all levels within the company.
  •  Demonstrated ability to think analytically and strategically.
  •  The ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects. The capability to function in a fast-paced working environment.
  •  Excellent computer skills including Word and Excel and industry related production and maintenance software.
  •  Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects successfully.
  •  Strong technical and mechanical systems aptitude.

EXPERIENCE/TRAINING/CERTIFICATIONS 

  •  Bachelor's degree in business preferred with ACI certifications required.
  •  A minimum of 2 – 5 years of work experience in plant management required.
  •  Must have proven effective supervisory and development skills including the ability to effectively coach and mentor operating personnel.
  •  A valid driver’s license with no major violations that would exclude a person from driving for business as defined by our insurance carrier and company policy.

Requirements

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

  •  Candidate must be drug free.
  •  Position requires moderately strenuous physical work. 
  •  Must be able to:
  •  Lift and carry up to 45 pounds from floor to 3’ – 5’ occasionally,
  •  Lift, carry, push, or pull up to 25 pounds frequently,
  •  Climb in and out of equipment 50+ times per day,
  •  Climb up and down ladders occasionally,
  •  Sit or stand for extended periods of time,
  •  Use hands, fingers, and feet to operate and/or service heavy construction machinery and concrete mixers and haul trucks,
  •  Travel safely while walking and while operating heavy machinery and/or trucks over uneven terrain, roads, and pavement,
  •  See, hear, and respond to verbal, visual, and written instructions and to moving heavy construction machinery,
  •  Wear proper protective equipment including hard hat, safety glasses, high visibility clothing, steel-toed boots, and gloves,
  •  Observe all company Safety policies on company premises and while operating heavy construction machinery,
  • Continually work in extreme hot and cold weather conditions, 
  • Work safely in wet, muddy, and slippery conditions occasionally, 
  •  Environment will vary from outdoors with varying noise levels and vibrations associated with construction equipment, and exposure to building materials, dust, and dirt at operating sites to a normal office environment.
