That\u2019s where you come in!\n\nThis is a hybrid role requiring three days a week in our Renton, WA office\n\n## What You\u0027ll Do:\n\n * Own art direction on D\u0026D products from concept to delivery: writing briefs, selecting artists, managing feedback cycles, and ensuring illustrations are compelling, cohesive, and brand-aligned.\n * Translate creative strategy and narrative into a visual tone that resonates across covers, interiors, and supporting illustrations.\n * Partner with narrative leads, designers, and editors to identify key moments that demand strong visual storytelling.\n * Set the standard for illustration execution by providing clear, actionable feedback at all stages\u2014sketch through final.\n * Serve as a commissioning lead, handling freelance pipelines, schedules, and talent selection in collaboration with senior ADs.\n * Work with graphic designers to ensure that art and layout are coordinated to support clarity, immersion, and style.\n * Contribute to building and evolving the D\u0026D artist pool: sourcing new talent, maintaining diversity of style and representation, and upholding world-class quality!\n\n\n\n## What You\u0027ll Bring:\n\n * 4+ years of experience in art direction, illustration management, or visual storytelling in games, publishing, or entertainment.\n * A portfolio or project list showing full-cycle art direction\u2014from artist selection to delivered illustration\u2014at a professional level.\n * Deep knowledge of fantasy illustration trends and the ability to analyze composition, tone, anatomy, and visual clarity.\n * Strong communication and collaboration skills: you can work with narrative teams, explain visual rationale, and hold artists to high standards while building relationships.\n * Experience commissioning and art directing freelance artists with efficiency and creative integrity.\n * Experience art directing on 3p licensed products and navigating brand adherence for partner IP.\n\n\n\n## Nice to Have:\n\n * Experience art directing covers and promotional key art.\n * Familiarity with the Dungeons \u0026 Dragons brand, lore, and visual tone.\n * Comfortable leading art reviews, documentation, or style guide creation.\n * Exposure to marketing, packaging, or cross-platform visual strategy.\n\n\n\nWe are an Equal Opportunity / Affirmative Action Employer\n\nWizards of the Coast is committed to equality of opportunity in all aspects of employment. The hiring range will vary based on factors such as experience, skills, location and market conditions.
