Art Handler

Description

M.S. Rau is looking for an Art Handler. This position is responsible for moving all manner of art and artifacts around the gallery, unloading, and loading items at clients’ homes, performing minor restoration, packing items for shipment, unpacking items received and setting up/breaking down tradeshow displays, all with minimal supervision..

Essential Functions

Handling Art

• Move antiques, and fine art around the gallery, process inventory for merchandising and set up lighting as directed
• Install artworks using various tools and equipment in different settings
• Complete tasks to keep gallery within gallery standards
• Participate in show events including setup and breakdown
• Load and unload trucks delivering inventory; receive and inspect inventory for condition upon receiving or picking up offsite
• Deliver items to clients including unpacking, packing and/or setting up of items.

Shipping

• Ensure the proper packaging, crating, and shipping of inventory to tradeshows and/or clients – 
• requires knowledge of best practices for wrapping and packing one-of-a-kind objects
• Select proper archival and other packing materials depending on the medium, surfaces, condition, and fragility of a particular work
• Properly pack, load, and strap artworks within a truck to keep safe in transport

Other

• Ability to touch up frames preferred but not required.
• Perform tasks supporting the overall company operations as needed

Requirements

Other skills you will bring to M.S. Rau:

Required

• High school graduate, or equivalent
• Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license with a good driving record
• 3+ years of experience handling antiques and fine art 

Preferred

• Bachelor’s Degree in Art
• Chauffeur’s license
• Art handling experience with historical a one-of-a-kind antiques and fine art
• Skills and experience to operate 26ft DOT truck 
• Carpentry experience with a basic knowledge of woodworking and power tools 

Knowledge/Skills

• Capable of promoting teamwork within the department and in coordination with other departments
• English speaking with math knowledge to count delivered shipped finished goods and read bill of lading/receivers
• Must be organized, detailed oriented, thorough, self-motivated, disciplined, flexible, patient and possess spontaneous decision capabilities
• Self-management, initiative and individual judgment are expected
• Strong verbal communication skills
• Technical/repair skills
• Courteous and professional at all times, especially when dealing with customers

What We Offer:

Compensation and Hours

This is a full-time hourly position with a very competitive compensation range based on abilities and experience plus the potential to earn quarterly and annual bonuses. The position works Monday through Friday 8:30am to 5:15pm with at least one Saturday per month required. Overtime based on business needs as well and local and out-of-state travel required.
