The Art Instructor plays a key role in supporting CHOICE’s mission to enrich the lives of those we serve by supporting them with their talents, dreams, and goals. In this role, you will lead engaging and inclusive art programs that encourage creativity, self-expression, and personal growth. Working directly with participants, you will design and facilitate a variety of art-based activities tailored to their interests and abilities. As a subject-matter expert, you’ll have the freedom to develop new projects, introduce fresh ideas, and shape the Studio art program in ways that expand creative opportunities and help individuals discover and celebrate their artistic potential.
Primary Duties:
Direct Support:
Plan and implement onsite life-enrichment activities and programs.
Provide training, assistance, modifications, and supports to participants at their community-based job sites.
Provide the necessary supports for participants to safely access and participate in community-based activities.
Transport participants in company vehicles to and from their homes, CHOICE facilities, jobs, and community locations.
Perform health care procedures according to protocols (e.g., medication and treatment administration, first aid, toileting, lifting, transferring, and feeding).
Maintain proper supervision ratios in accordance with licensing regulations and ensure the safest environment possible for the individuals served at CHOICE.
Art Programming:
Oversee Art facilities, including the organization, inventory, and proper use of supplies. Ensure a safe, clean, and effective environment in the Art room.
Plan and implement group classes and projects across various art forms and historical genres, while exploring a variety of mediums.
Offer individualized art projects based on participants’ preferences and talents.
Assist individuals with working on their art-focused Goals and Outcomes. Provide opportunity for individualized instruction. Track progress and report results to the individual’s Designated Coordinator.
Oversee the in-house display of artwork created by CHOICE artists. Determine the placement of wall hangings and displays throughout the CHOICE facility.
Research locations and coordinate with outside agencies for the display of artwork in community settings.
Plan and facilitate long-term art-themed events and projects, and promote upcoming events to the target audience.
Seek leads and obtain connections in the community that may contribute to the development of new Art partnerships with outside agencies.
Promote the achievements of the art program to the greater CHOICE community through various platforms (i.e., website, newsletters, videos, annual reports, etc.).
Submit social media content for the Studio by CHOICE Instagram page, as directed by the Art Specialist.
Manage and organize the electronic storage of artwork at your site.
Collaborate with the Art team by participating in and contributing to team meetings and working together to establish goals and milestones for expanding the Art program across the agency.
Lend your talents and expertise to the Administration and Marketing teams to help promote CHOICE through various initiatives and events.
Qualifications:
BA or BS degree in a field related to Humans Services, Art, or Education is preferred. Candidates with 4 years of relevant work experience in a professional employment setting may be considered in place of education.
Prior experience working with individuals with disabilities preferred, but not required, as training will be offered.
Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record required.
Must pass criminal background study.
Familiarity with basic technology resources, including Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Canva, printer and copier.
Ability to physically bend, stoop, reach, and lift at least 40 pounds.
Must maintain certification in First Aid, CPR, and Medication Administration.
Ability to communicate and present oneself with a professional demeanor.
Relationship to Others:
Reports to Program Director for supervision
Receives mentorship and guidance from the Art Specialist
Receives occasional instruction from the Marketing Director
Employment Specifications:
Art Instructors must be available to work 35 - 40 hours/week depending on assigned duties, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM.
All work is done in office. Remote work is not currently available.
