Description

We are seeking an Art Teacher for our Hoboken campus for the 2025-2026 academic year. Standard work hours and time off as per the Faculty/Staff Handbook.

Reports to: Hoboken Campus Principal  

    

The Candidate

You have a successful track record of teaching art to elementary students. We are looking for candidates who bring creativity, excellent relationship skills and a collaborative approach to their craft. The art teacher will also exhibit a passion for fostering a strong culture of student engagement in learning, in close alignment with our mission. Our faculty models a spirit of collaboration and inquiry to “foster curiosity, compassion and confidence in students who think deeply, act ethically and lead by example.” Candidates will be culturally competent with effective organizational and classroom management skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills are necessary in order to develop interpersonal relationships with faculty, families, and students. 

You are an energetic, self-starting professional with a positive attitude. You work collaboratively, creatively and flexibly with others in a small community and can instill confidence in the program with parents and caregivers. 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Plans and delivers a resource-rich art curriculum involving demonstrations, student-led discussions, hands-on activities, and direct application of skills consistent with the school’s art curriculum; organizes activities for optimal learning. Continue to develop and modify curriculum and look for opportunities to integrate curriculum with other disciplines
  • Works collaboratively with class teachers to ensure an integrated approach to the humanities-based curriculum.
  • Works collaboratively with Newport counterparts to plan and develop curriculum. 
  • Has knowledge of and implements a range of art assessment practices including projects, presentations, and process-oriented art assessment.
  • Monitors student progress and maintains relevant evidence of student learning.  
  • Establishes and maintains student expectations for a productive learning environment during class sessions.
  • Cultivates and maintains a safe and inclusive classroom culture that values various perspectives.
  • Develops students’ cultural competencies and help them find connections to the world. 
  • Interacts effectively and sensitively with a diverse population of students, faculty and parent/caregiver body
  • Integrates technology (Mac-based, Google Suite and use of Smart Panels and Chromebooks)
  • Maintains the Artsonia platform of student artworks for family access.
  • Participates in faculty committees and other required duties.
  • Works effectively with all members of the staff. 
  • Exhibits an outstanding level of teacher support and collaborative spirit.
  • Writes progress reports twice annually and attends teacher/parent/guardian conferences as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Have a passion for and love of teaching elementary aged children
  • Relevant classroom experience with similar age group
  • Demonstrate flexibility and resourcefulness and be motivated  to grow and to collaborate with others
  • Proficiency with the use of technology (Mac-based, Google Suite and use of Smartpanels and Chromebooks)

Requirements

  •  Arrival by 8:15am
  • Attend a selection of weekly faculty meetings, Back to School Night, and formal Parent-Teacher Conferences (in fall and spring)
  • Attend start of year and closing faculty meetings 
  • Attend grade-related field trips (including overnight trips if applicable) and certain evening events

Salary & Benefits

The salary range is $50,400 - $73,500.  Stevens offers a comprehensive benefits package including medical, vision, and dental insurance, a 403(b) retirement savings account match program, life insurance, and long-term disability insurance as well as reimbursements for cell-phone use and and for an on-street parking permit in Hoboken.
